We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Lewis Schenk: Thanks for having me! I started Boost Media Agency back at the start of 2020, and have evolved the company a lot since then. Initially, our sole focus was public relations. Now, we focus on creating world-class personal brands, through getting our clients in the media, booked on podcasts, and creating social media content.
2020 and 2021 threw a lot of curve balls into business on a global scale. Based on the experience gleaned in the past couple years, how can businesses thrive in 2022? What lessons have you learned?
Lewis Schenk: By innovating and getting creative. The businesses that don’t adapt simply won’t make it. I also learned that there are a surprising number of industries that are hardly affected by the economic situation.
The pandemic seems to keep on disrupting the economy, what should businesses focus on in 2022? What advice would you share?
Lewis Schenk: Keeping the business as lean and profitable as possible. The economy is uncertain to say the least, and now more than ever companies with hundreds of employees will have to focus on bringing in enough revenue to remain open. The one’s that are structured correctly will ultimately win.
How has the pandemic changed your industry and how have you adapted?
Lewis Schenk: To be honest, it hasn’t really changed one bit. We are blessed to have clients all across the globe, who all work and run their businesses online as well. The biggest way I’d say we’ve adapted is by continuously innovating and looking for more ways to add value to our clients.
What advice do you wish you received when the pandemic started and what do you intend on improving in 2022?
Lewis Schenk: To start building a team even faster. I spent the first year of business as a one-man shop, and had I brought on team members sooner I would have been able to scale a lot quicker.
Online business surged higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for 2022?
Lewis Schenk: More face-to-face meetings, more in person events, things going somewhat back to normal. Don’t get me wrong, zoom is a fantastic tool – but it doesn’t compare to real-life human connection.
How many hours a day do you spend in front of a screen?
Lewis Schenk: I’d say on average 8-10. I’d ideally like to do less, but during certain periods of the business you simply have to do whats required.
The majority of executives use stories to persuade and communicate in the workplace. Can you share with our readers examples of how you implement that in your business to communicate effectively with your team?
Lewis Schenk: Of course. I am a big proponent of storytelling. I love to share stories through my content, and while talking to potential customers. They are the perfect way to influence, engage, and inspire, and also bridge the gap on where someone is, and where they want to go.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as the real challenge right now?
Lewis Schenk: Hiring the right talent. One thing I’ve learned recently is that you really do need to hire people smarter than yourself in order to grow. Finding more of them is the difficult thing!
In 2022, what are you most interested in learning about? Crypto, NFTs, online marketing, or any other skill sets? Please share your motivations.
Lewis Schenk: I’m going to continue investing my time into learning more tangible skills for our business – sales, marketing, branding, and ultimately scaling.
A record 4.4 million Americans left their jobs in September in 2021, accelerating a trend that has become known as the Great Resignation. 47% of people plan to leave their job during 2022. Most are leaving because of their boss or their company culture. 82% of people feel unheard, undervalued and misunderstood in the workplace. Do you think leaders see the data and think “that’s not me – I’m not that boss they don’t want to work for? What changes do you think need to happen?
Lewis Schenk: I think we need to all embody extreme ownership. As a society we are becoming weaker when it comes to this, so leaders in every organization need to step up and take charge.
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Lewis Schenk: To know exactly the right thing to do at every single moment in order to reach our targets.
What does “success” in 2022 mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
Lewis Schenk: Success this year for me would be to win an industry award, serve even more clients, and help all of my team reach their goals!
