We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Brian Ouellette: I’m Brian, a University of Washington graduate, and I’m proud to say that I have had a wide-ranging career that spans three decades. My journey began as a financial advisor, a role I held for a decade, starting at the Chicago Board of Trade. During that time, I also had the privilege of serving as the go-to money expert for FOX News This Morning in Seattle.
I delivered over 3,000 market updates live from the studio that was built for me in my Oppenheimer & Co. office, making an impact in the 12th largest media market in the U.S.
My expertise has been recognized in more than 300 media outlets, including prestigious ones like the Wall Street Journal and NBC’s Today Show. In 2004, I decided to retire from financial advising and took on a new path as a three-time company founder and a specialized coach for pro athlete advisors.
Drawing upon my extensive experience, I developed the AskMyAdvisor® Referral Method and Software OS. This innovative system is specifically designed to assist financial advisors in simplifying client-building. Guided by the Pareto principle, the AskMyAdvisor® Referral Method and Software OS tackle the longstanding challenge that has haunted trusted advisors for a century: scaling referrals.
The secret sauce of my approach is to have advisors focus relentlessly on strengthening relationships with their top 20% of clients, as well as their top advisor friends and their circles of influence. In today’s challenging landscape, I firmly believe that trusted advisors are indispensable, and I am convinced that my method provides the most straightforward path to building impactful and lasting client relationships.
What advice do you wish you had received when you started your business journey and what do you intend on improving in the next quarter?
Brian Ouellette: Using systems in all planning. Templates for how you grow and expand. Have a framework to refer to in each step of the way keeps us more organized and effective at executing to create results vs. being disorganized.
We are creating SOPs for every piece of the puzzle for AskMyAdvisor®. As a pure SaaS who believes as a SaaS we should do SaaS things in all areas. What does this mean? Where there companies add headcount, we automate.
This means we depend on tech to handle 99% of our backend so we can focus our time and capital on bringing the best software solution possible to the accountants, attorneys, consultants, financial advisors, realtors, and other trusted advisors .
Here is a two-fold question: What is the book that influenced you the most and how? Please share some life lessons you learned. Now what book have you gifted the most and why?
Brian Ouellette: Think and grow rich is a common one and it’s one of my favorites. It influences me as a reminder is all is possible, there are no limits. What the mind can conceive it can achieve. In the realm of Henry Ford’s whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.
The last 2 years I’ve gifted Alex Hormozi’s $100M Offers the most. No matter what we do in business, we are creating an offer. Whether services, product or ourselves. This is a flawless book from a real smart guy.
Christopher Hitchens, an American journalist, is quoted as saying that “everyone has a book in them” Have you written a book? If so, please share with us details about it. If you haven’t, what book would you like to write and how would you like it to benefit the readers?
Brian Ouellette: Yes, Referral Secrets of the Elite Trusted Advisor is in the final edit phase, tip.askmyadvisor.co/book
In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a company? Can you share an example?
Brian Ouellette: The importance of planning properly and being flexible to adjust and improve, yet not deviate from the mission.
What does “success” in 2023 mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
