2020 and 2021 threw a lot of curve balls into business on a global scale. Based on the experience gleaned in the past couple years, how can businesses thrive in 2022? What lessons have you learned?
Sally Anderson: Traditional leadership (left brain, linear, hard skills, 1-3 dimensional realm) is DEAD, we will not be returning to what was. There is a need to bring more dialogue, support, and empathy, along with breakthrough initiatives to support leaders (at the highest level) not only navigate through but dominate and thrive despite uncertainty to achieve unprecedented ‘sustainable’ RESULTS. A high percentage of leaders do not know how to navigate the terrain of uncertainty, they are used to being in control.
We need to elevate the consciousness of those who lead to embrace the co-creative realm (right brain, non-linear, soft skills, 4-5th and beyond dimensional realms). Who we are in our human form is limited, who we are in our co-creative form is limitless!
The pandemic seems to keep on disrupting the economy, what should businesses focus on in 2022? What advice would you share?
Sally Anderson: I’d say:
- GET THE RIGHT SUPPORT to do things differently A LOT!
- Getting the right people on the right seat on the right bus going in the right direction
- Mental Health Audit (MHA) from the top down, deal with reality NOT assumption
- Review EAP programs to adapt to the outcome of MHA’s
- Make the confronting decisions, take confronting actions, adopt a culture where confrontation, resistance and uncomfortability are where the breakthrough results occur
How has the pandemic changed your industry and how have you adapted?
Sally Anderson: Now more than ever this is the MOST exciting time for the coaching industry for those coaches who genuinely are here to serve have a far more receptive market. There are a lot of leaders hurting out there and specifically in the leadership space there is a need to provide alternative solutions to the changing landscape. I have personally been in the leadership space for 33 years, 20 years in my own boutique, niche, executive leadership coaching practice and have seen a lot of coaches come and go. I have operated online for over 20 years so Covid did not impact me, if anything it has positioned me to be of service at the highest level given the need currently to navigate unfamiliar, uncertainty territory
What advice do you wish you received when the pandemic started and what do you intend on improving in 2022?
Sally Anderson: This applies more to what I have observed, as I mentioned above, yes there has been a viral pandemic, but the fear pandemic is as infiltrative to the human race in totality. There needs to be more support provided to people from all sectors of society on how to deal with and navigate uncertainty. Sad but true. All the magic and the miracles occur in the unknown but most do not trust it. We were born intuitive, connected, and fearless and then we forgot, it’s time to reclaim our original birthright.
Online business surged higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for 2022?
Sally Anderson: I have operated online for over 2 decades so it is great, I think, to see the workplace change to adapt to the online world. Pre-Covid organisations did not trust their people working from home remotely whereas now, some companies have decided that it is far more effective to decentralise and in some cases, disband their corporate infrastructures completely, how astounding! Expectations, more and more trust within the said culture to tailor work environments that serve the people.
How many hours a day do you spend in front of a screen?
Sally Anderson: 6 hours x 3 days per week on average
The majority of executives use stories to persuade and communicate in the workplace. Can you share with our readers examples of how you implement that in your business to communicate effectively with your team?
Sally Anderson: I am a solo operator by choice but have run my own teams corporately and within previous businesses. Storytelling in any culture is almighty powerful to achieve true emotional connection. Effective communication is not rocket science, but sadly there is a lack of leadership development that is progressive that provide effective tools, processes, distinctions, to leaders to evolve their communication style.
Some examples:
- – Company wide surveys asking specific questions as to the status of the culture
- – 360 Appraisals to truly understand both parties perspectives
- – Ongoing Leadership Development training that is customised to the specific needs of the organisation
- – Leadership Masterclasses, enabling open dialogue on what the executives are facing
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as the real challenge right now?
Sally Anderson: Companies not acting fast enough to address what is no longer working. Leaders not having the difficult conversations.
- Avoidance of making the difficult decisions
- Not eliciting the right support from specialists
- Not acknowledging that mental health is an issue in every organisation right now, it can no longer be in the compliance bucket
- Using money, cashflow is the reason not to address what needs to be addressed, head in the sand
- Doing the same things, expecting a different result – no sense of urgency, resistance to change
In 2022, what are you most interested in learning about? Crypto, NFTs, online marketing, or any other skill sets? Please share your motivations.
Sally Anderson: I am a life long learner, regularly listen to podcasts, avid reader, and always learn from my clients everyday. Motivated by fitness and serving at the highest level
A record 4.4 million Americans left their jobs in September in 2021, accelerating a trend that has become known as the Great Resignation. 47% of people plan to leave their job during 2022. Most are leaving because of their boss or their company culture. 82% of people feel unheard, undervalued and misunderstood in the workplace. Do you think leaders see the data and think “that’s not me – I’m not that boss they don’t want to work for? What changes do you think need to happen?
Sally Anderson: A high percentage of leaders and organisations are working with assumption NOT reality – until they undergo authentic audits on the health of the people, culture and organisation, they will not know the real status of what is happening. Until they speak directly to those from the top down they will not be able to effectively navigate the current terrain. Company wide surveys, mental health audits are mission critical right now
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Sally Anderson: I have a number of superpowers:
(1) Leveraging my co-creative ability to create exponential results
(2) Coaching to cause NOT symptom and providing transformative results that are sustainable for leaders ready for their next level of evolution
(3) Facilitating LIVE coaching forums where those leaders in attendance experience real-time life altering breakthroughs with whatever they are dealing with personally and or professionally – almighty powerful in group, a truly priceless experience
What does “success” in 2022 mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
Sally Anderson: Continuing to serve at the highest level. Impacting future generations through the fulfilment of global legacies
The more leaders I am able to IGNITE to become impassioned, EVOLVE to new levels of consciousness, stand for them to LIBERATE themselves and then pay forward to liberate others, the more I know i am fulfilling the purpose of why I am here
