We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Ron Nussbaum: I am a Dynamic, results-oriented leader. Conductor of change that never accepts the status quo or an excuse. After serving in the Marine Corps, I went on to add over a decade of experience in the construction industry, cementing myself as a visionary and a leader in residential construction, being in many roles from labor to running the company, I have sat on every sit on the bus.
While doing this, I realized that communication was not only my customers’ biggest complaint, it was also wrecking havoc on our bottom line. I set out to figure out how we could be better; this led to me founding Nuttnest. After 2+ years of grinding it out, I was accepted into the 10X incubator and partnered with Project 10K.
The journey is still early on, but the last 3 years have taught me to always keep taking action! My mission is to help 5 million people in the construction industry with communication! I use my knowledge and experiences to help others grow and change the overall mindset around construction. Pushing the industry into the 21st century and removing the old stigmas and limiting beliefs around construction.
My passion is to improve communication and allow companies to focus on what they are great at. Over my time spent in all roles I have always known there has to be better ways and processes, now I help build them.
If you were in an elevator with Warren Buffet, how would you describe your company, your services or products? What makes your company different from others? What is your company’s biggest strength?
Ron Nussbaum: What was communication like on your last home project? chances are not good? Communication is the biggest complaint and breakdown in construction, but we treat it as if its someone’s else’s problem and not ours.
After spending over a decade in residential construction I have found that as an induvial and an industry we have to look in the mirror and understand that because we think we are awesome at it does not mean are customers are impressed!
Not only are we creating a friction point for our customers, but communication is also wreaking havoc on our bottom lines, and we are seeing profits disappear before our eyes. By understanding that this is the elephant in the room we can start to come together and change the narrative throughout the industry.
This what lead me to build Nuttnest a customer communication platform built by the industry for the industry. We give your customers direct access to the right person every time they reach out and organize all pictures, documents and communication by project, no more chasing emails and text messages!
We work like air traffic control for your communication, allowing you to be the great communicator you are!
What advice do you wish you received when you started your business journey and what do you intend on improving in the next quarter?
Ron Nussbaum: Not everyone is meant to have a seat on your bus and it’s about finding the ones that really want to be on it, not convincing those that don’t.
Next quarter will be focused on growing the customer experience with Nuttnest.
Here is a two fold question: What is the book that influenced you the most and how? Please share some life lessons you learned. Now what book have you gifted the most and why?
Ron Nussbaum: The book that has influenced me the most recently 75 HARD Andy Frisella, it got me back the edge I had lost from the 9-5 grind and got me re focused on what matters. Ron Nussbaum is only as great as Ron Nussbaum thinks he is!
We tend to run away from discipline but in reality, we need to lean into it and thieve! I created 75 HARD with getting me in the place to launch Nuttnest and make the life choices that had to be made to get here.
I gift 10X Rule Grant Cardone the most because it is a book everyone should read and when someone tells me they haven’t I must get it in their hands!
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?
Ron Nussbaum: Not being known! It’s the challenge all start-ups face and must do not overcome. It does not matter how great your product is if no one knows about it. You have to be willing to leave the ego at the door and start doing things others will not do.
Thinking outside of the box and adjusting in real time, for me it’s about being consistent and going after it 100%. We are always looking at how do we get Nuttnest in front of our ideal customers right now!
In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a company? Can you share an example?
Ron Nussbaum: It is not always going to be sexy! As a company grows you are only that size once every step of the way, make it count and don’t be afraid to get in the thick of it.
Long term you and the company will be better because of it, we see companies break and back track all the time because of not focusing on now and only the future.
What does “success” in the year to come mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
Ron Nussbaum: Ending the year with 5000 users will be our 2023 success.
We are doing this with our great customers, our partners and our strategic alliances, to change the mindset around communication in the construction industry we have to do it together and win as an industry and that is what Nuttnest is doing everyday creating an envelopment that can happen in!
