We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Kira Radinsky: I am the co-founder and CEO of Diagnostic Robotics. Since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a scientist.
I started my university studies at a young age, 15 years old, and continued my research in the U.S. while working on my Ph.D. My research focused on analyzing global written history using AI algorithms to predict events such as droughts, cholera outbreaks, and natural disasters.
I saw that although future events are always unique, they tend to follow patterns. This led me to begin developing algorithms that could analyze digital histories, social media, news media, and other web behavior to make real-time estimations of the likelihood of future events.
For example, I was able to predict the first cholera outbreak reported in Cuba in 130 years using some of these methods.
I founded SalesPredict, which was acquired by eBay in 2016, to mine large-scale data and predict sales conversions. I applied my approach to various problems — predicting disease outbreaks, mortality, and riots with 70%-90% accuracy. But I knew that I wanted to make a difference in healthcare.
I joined Technion – Israel Institute of Technology – as a visiting professor and spearheaded a research group that analyzed medical records and literature to create personalized predictions based on historical patterns among patients. This led me to co-found Diagnostic Robotics in 2017.
What made me passionate about co-founding Diagnostic Robotics though was the growing shortage of physicians around the world and the overburdened job responsibilities they face.
More than 100 million Americans face some kind of primary care access barrier, including not having enough physicians in their specific geographic areas, and this issue continues to grow.
With this in mind, Diagnostic Robotics has become a leading provider of fully-integrated population health management, triage, and navigation solutions.
Our AI-Powered Population Health solutions, for example, which are trained on tens of billions of claims data points and nearly 100 million patient visits, enable health plans and providers to proactively identify and engage members who are likely to be at risk for costly health incidents in the future instead of only those who have already reached the point of critical deterioration.
This helps to improve operational efficiencies, slash administrative burdens, massively reduce cost of care, and improve patient experiences. We’ve leveraged billions of claims and historical medical records to build AI-driven triage systems that help navigate patients and create personalized patient care journeys.
By identifying and targeting patients earlier in their care journeys, we can match them with relevant clinical interventions and help reduce the burden on healthcare systems.
In the past year, what is the greatest business achievement you’d like to celebrate with your team? Please share the details of that success.
Kira Radinsky: In 2022, we were fortunate to close a $45M Series B funding round led by StageOne investors, with participation from Mayo Clinic, thus becoming a Mayo Clinic Platform portfolio company.
We are using this funding to accelerate product development, and go-to-market growth, including investment in sales and marketing.
Diagnostic Robotics also experienced significant growth through 2022, tripling its revenues year-over-year since 2020.
What advice do you wish you had received when you started your business journey and what do you intend on improving in the next quarter?
Kira Radinsky: I’ve been an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember and have been fortunate enough to work with many talented mentors who have given me great advice along the way.
I think it’s easy to want to move fast into growth, but it’s important to keep a pulse on the market and listen to what your customers are telling you.
This next quarter, my team will be focused on optimizing our product offerings and expanding our customer base to more risk-bearing providers.
We are always analyzing feedback from customers to identify areas for improvement and target new growth opportunities, and in parallel looking at trends in the general population to understand how our products can best match those needs.
Online business keeps on surging higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for the year to come and how are you capitalizing on the tidal wave?
Kira Radinsky: I have been closely watching the unprecedented growth of online business over the past three years, especially the shifts that have occurred in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, chiefly the move to more digital and online engagement as you mentioned.
I am focusing on how generative AI models can accelerate this transformation to boost digital engagement options for patients, providers, and health plans.
Overall, generative models have great potential in healthcare for improving diagnostic accuracy, facilitating medical research, and enhancing the overall quality of patient care.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?
Kira Radinsky: The rising cost of healthcare is one of the biggest challenges we are currently facing. It is a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted solution.
By leveraging cutting-edge machine learning algorithms and billions of patient data points, Diagnostic Robotics’ AI-powered solutions can help healthcare organizations optimize their operations and reduce costs through improved patient outcomes.
Our solutions can identify patients with the highest risk of preventable health incidents, chronic conditions, or ED visits and help match them with proactive clinical interventions to help them avoid expensive care.
I’m confident that our offerings can help transform population health management as we know it and make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for all.
In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a company? Can you share an example?
Kira Radinsky: As a founder, I’ve learned that staying focused on the company’s mission throughout the early stages of being a startup is crucial, yet often underestimated.
It’s easy to get distracted by everyday challenges that arise, such as fundraising, recruiting, or gaining early traction; however, staying laser-focused on the company’s mission and vision is key to building a purpose-driven company.
I strive to ensure that every employee understands our solutions’ bigger picture potential to save lives and lower patient cost of care. This helps us stay motivated even when we are moving at lightning speed.
What does “success” in 2023 mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
Kira Radinsky: Success this year and in the future means expanding our customer base and strengthening how we work with our current customers.
We’re excited to see that the health plans and providers that we are working with have been able to achieve their population health goals, whether that is improving patient outcomes, boosting ROI, or improving operational efficiencies. We want to continue helping them achieve more success.
