If you were in an elevator with Warren Buffet, how would you describe your company, your services or products? What makes your company different from others? What is your company’s biggest strength?
Craig Goodliffe: We build partnerships with emerging talent and emerging businesses. With record high unemployment rates, many small and emerging businesses have a hard time staffing positions necessary for their company to operate. They are very limited on a local talent pool and sometimes have to settle for a less than desirable candidate.
Cyberbacker not only averages over 20,000 applicants per week, it also does over 5000 interviews per week to identify people who can work with those emerging businesses. Cyberbacker provides hundreds of training classes as well as a world class profit share program so the cyberbackers have the option to retire at the end of their 5 year vesting period, thus reducing turnover for emerging businesses.
Quiet quitting, The Great Resignation, are an ongoing trend causing many businesses to struggle keeping talent engaged and motivated. Most are leaving because of their boss or their company culture. 82% of people feel unheard, undervalued and misunderstood in the workplace. In your experience, what keeps employees happy? And how are adapting to the current shift we see?
Craig Goodliffe: There’s a lot of conversation around emotional intelligence and a lot of people forget that emotional awareness comes before emotional intelligence. The more emotionally aware we are of different team members the better we can make decisions as leaders to improve the emotions of people inside the company.
One of the initiatives we’ve been involved in is a fun backer position. This person meets with people in our company to determine where they’re at emotionally while sharing positivity and making sure that each team member feels valued and appreciated.
When team members are emotionally in a bad place it’s exceptionally hard for them to engage. When team members are emotionally in a great place then engagement and growth are inevitable.
Online business keeps on surging higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for the year to come and how are you capitalizing on the tidal wave?
Craig Goodliffe: Our expectation is that the trend will continue to rise especially due to the low unemployment rate. There are several jobs that a cyberbacker can do as long as they don’t require a license or a physical presence.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?
Craig Goodliffe: The real challenge for cyberbacker comes in changing the way our clients and potential clients think. Prior to the year 2001 it wouldn’t be possible to hire a cyberbacker to do a fraction of the things that can be done by them now.
Several small business owners don’t even know we exist and some who do don’t understand how we can help them. Through classes as well as other training and education we plan to infotain potential clients where they can see value in hiring globally.
2020, 2021, 2022 threw a lot of curve balls into businesses on a global scale. Based on the experience gleaned in the past years, how can businesses thrive in 2023? What lessons have you learned and what advice would you share?
Craig Goodliffe: Cyberbacker started in 2018. We doubled our company in 2019 and had a goal to double again in 2020 that would have left us with 400 cyberbackers. We ended the year with over 800 cyberbackers and ended 2021 with 2199. Growth at this level is almost unheard of for any company and we are still living with the growing pains of growing that fast.
The biggest lesson that I learned is that when you hire the right people you’re able to do amazing things. When you hire the wrong people they keep you from doing amazing things. Everything comes down to hiring the right person to do the right job at the right time.
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Craig Goodliffe: In the X-Men stories professor Charles Xavier has a machine called cerebro where he can see humans and mutants. I would like a similar superpower where I can see people’s values. I’ve noticed that when we hire people with similar values they really thrive in our work environment. When we hire people with different values sometimes there are struggles that could have been avoided.
What does “success” in the year to come mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
Craig Goodliffe: Success for cyberbacker in 2023 means creating additional jobs. Everyone in our company on some level is a job creator and we would like to end 2023 with 10,000 or more jobs created.
