What advice do you wish you had received when you started your business journey and what do you intend on improving in the next quarter?
Marvin Magusara: When I started this journey, I wanted someone had advise me to focus on building a solid team from the get-go. You see, it is not just about the enterprise idea, it is about the people who bring it to life.
An extremely good team can turn challenges into possibilities. Looking ahead, in the next quarter, we are doubling down on client feedback.
We’ve got a few exciting tasks inside the pipeline, and we want to make sure we’re hitting the mark. So, improving our verbal exchange with our customers and genuinely paying attention to what they want is our top priority.
Here is a two-fold question: What is the book that influenced you the most and how? Please share some life lessons you learned. Now what book have you gifted the most and why?
Marvin Magusara: The book that influenced me the most is ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho. It’s an easy but profound story about following your goals. It taught me that the adventure is just as critical as the vacation spot.
About life lessons, it reminded me that sometimes, what we’re searching for is right in front of us, and we need to trust our path. As for the book I’ve gifted the most, it’s ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
I’ve given it to friends and family because it’s a timeless tale that reminds us of the importance of seeing the world through a child’s eyes.
It teaches us to appreciate the beauty of simple things and not to lose touch with our inner child. Both of these books have left a long-lasting impact on me, and I hope they have been carried out the same for those I’ve shared them with.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?
Marvin Magusara: The real struggle in the contemporary business environment is the task of managing the process of digital transformation and engaging in the changing pattern of consumer behavior.
Businesses have to quickly move with technology which in such form continuously advances faster than it has ever done before.
This spells innovation not only in the line of products and services but also in what the customers require and how to project standards. Nowadays, the speed of digital platform transformation has altered operational business approaches, therefore every business disposition must be digitally oriented.
Moreover, there is a trend of growing eco-awareness among consumers which is one of the notable threats. Organizations need to show in their production and procurement to have an effort towards sustainability and not only the end products once produced.
This move has to be conducted from continuous research, development as well and education on environmental sustainability to a standard that a component needs to achieve.
Global supply chain disruptions further compound these challenges, emphasizing the need for resilience and adaptability. Ensuring the consistent availability of high-quality materials requires a robust and flexible supply chain strategy.
Addressing these challenges head-on, through innovation, commitment to sustainability, and strategic planning, is essential for businesses aiming to thrive in the current and future business environment.
In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a company? Can you share an example?
Marvin Magusara: The most underestimated aspect of running a company is often the importance of a strong company culture.
Although it often shifts the spotlight on concrete aspects such as product development or financial planning, the corporate culture seems to be a major and crucially important factor that ensures employee engagement and motivation, as well as the business’s success.
However, Retaining Wall Supplies grew this way that it was only natural that the problems of a united team appeared. Due to this, the company culture became neglected in the course of expansion.
Team-building activities, open forums, as well as workshops focused on the core values were introduced to the company; in addition, transparent communication channels were enabled and as a result, the firm noticed better employee morale, efficacy, and innovation.
This transformation was highlighted as an initiative done by an intentional effort to create a positive and cohesive culture which in the long run affects employee satisfaction, customer service, and profits. Company culture investment is not some sort of an appendix but a fundamental motive for success.
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Marvin Magusara: The superpower I would choose without hesitation was instant insight, the power to know and forecast consumer demands and market tendencies before they come to the notice of anyone.
Such a superpower would enable me to predict changes in consumer behavior, new market opportunities, and potential risks before they come to the forefront; it would give my company, Retaining Wall Supplies, a great competitive advantage.
Practicing this superpower would mean several tactical methods applied. It will in the first place allow us to innovate pre-emptively, creating new products and services that address the needs of the consumer in the future making us stand out as a front-runner in sustainable and functional landscape solutions.
Rather, we could personalize our designs and services so that they would deserve – 100% – to fit into the current trends for the environment, and thus every project would not only be a reaction to current needs, but a guide for the development of the landscaping.
Secondly, it will improve our marketing. This approach would enable us to formulate messages that customer will relate to so vividly, addressing their need and concerns that they can not articulate themselves.
Our marketing campaigns would be more efficient and we would be more successful in reaching our potential clients and thus, they would become more engaged and loyal.
Finally, this superpower would optimize our operational efficiencies by forecasting the occurrence of supply chain disturbances so that in execution there is always the synchronicity of materials and resources.
It would also assist our talent recruitment function, to help us understand the capabilities we should seek out and the ones which need to be built.
