Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.

Jamil Bouchareb: My name is Jamil Bouchareb, and I am the founder and CEO of Restaurantware, a leading supplier of sustainable foodservice supplies to restaurants, caterers, and home chefs across the globe. My role involves continually expanding our network to forge new client partnerships and connect with industry leaders, ensuring we stay at the forefront of trends and innovations.

Since our inception in 2010, we’ve expanded our operations worldwide and grown our product portfolio to over 10,000 SKUs, and project to continue adding at least 250 new products quarterly.

This rapid growth is driven by the strong relationships built through networking and our team’s exceptional customer service, which fosters repeat business.

How has the significance of networking evolved over the past decades?

Jamil Bouchareb: In general, we are seeing industries becoming more connected than ever before as social media and e-commerce continue to be key drivers of consumer behavior. For example, at Restaurantware, we’ve adapted by integrating fashion trends into foodservice packaging, offering sleek and modern aesthetics to enhance dining experiences.

To that end, the need for networking across all areas of business is becoming increasingly important, as those unique relationships are what help companies get ahead and stand out from competitors.

The internet has simplified making these connections, allowing us to meet and learn from global industry leaders more easily.

Can you share a personal story where one networking interaction led to unexpected doors opening, and how it highlights the ripple effect of networking?

Jamil Bouchareb: I’d like to highlight our Power Lunch for a Purpose initiative. This idea stemmed from a single networking interaction and has since grown into a significant platform for industry leaders to connect, share insights, and collaborate on charitable endeavors.

It exemplifies how one interaction can snowball into numerous opportunities, reinforcing the transformative power of networking.

What are some common networking mistakes people make, and how can they pivot to turn potential missteps into learning experiences?

Jamil Bouchareb: Common networking mistakes that I see include not following up, failing to listen actively, and focusing too much on personal gain rather than mutual benefit.

To turn these around, it’s important to prioritize genuine connections, actively engage in conversations, and always look for ways to provide value to others. Learning from each interaction and continuously refining your approach is key to successful networking.

How do you see the future of networking evolving with the rise of AI, VR, and other technologies?

Jamil Bouchareb: As I noted above, we have seen how the internet has completely revolutionized how we connect and communicate, therefore as new technologies continue to develop and emerge I anticipate that we will continue to see their influence on how we network both personally and professionally.

That said, while innovations in AI particularly have the potential to streamline conversations for efficiency and maximize productivity,

I still believe the need for in-person connection can never be fully replaced with technology. There will always be value in getting to know the actual human beings behind a screen through face-to-face conversations, as those moments have the potential to transcend any e-mail or online interaction and foster real human connection.
