Smart Managers Use These Tools

Do you strive to improve your management abilities with each passing day? Most conscientious managers do. The good news is that there are plenty of new digital and old-school tools for achieving a more efficient workplace for your company. One of the latest stars of the show is company-wide fitness benefits. Workers place a high value on vouchers they can use at local gyms or the chance to work out for free at company-owned facilities. Fleet management software is a sophisticated digital tool that transport owners employ to help drivers achieve on-time delivery goals and stay accident-free.

Plus, modern organizations are quickly dispensing with the traditional annual performance review of employees. The new way is to conduct more frequent, less intense reviews at least four times per year. This can help take the stress out of business management significantly. Finally, flextime and remote work have finally made their way into mainstream corporate culture. Job applicants often seek out companies that offer flexible schedules and allow for telecommuting. Here are more details about each of the top tools intelligent managers use.

Fitness Benefits for All Employees

What began as an experiment more than two decades ago has caught on in thousands of organizations of all sizes and in all industries. That idea is fitness benefits for employees. The perk comes in several forms. The most common is for owners to offer all workers a fixed-value voucher they can use at any local health club or gym. In most cases, companies will cover monthly membership fees of up to $50 per person. Another version of the benefit is for organizations to construct and maintain their own fitness facilities on site. Not as common as the voucher method, many large corporations prefer the on-site approach because it saves them money in the long run and makes it more convenient for workers to get workouts in before or after their shifts. Regardless of the fitness venue, rest assured active employees are more productive, and at a lower cost to your health insurance expense.

The most obvious benefit of fitness is that “employees who are physically fit are typically healthier and have less illness. They also take less time off from work due to illness” says Rebecca Gunter of Hand Stations. In addition, “physically fit employees tend to be more productive and have better problem-solving skills” she says.

Fleet Management Software

In transportation firms, wise management teams and owners view fleet management systems as an indispensable part of doing business. Even the simplest fleet software offers AI dash cams so office-based operators can follow real-time incidents and prevent dangerous situations through in-cab coaching for drivers. This high level of video-based safety saves money and lives. Likewise, dash cams are relatively inexpensive devices that can be placed in every fleet vehicle to get the job done. Company owners consider fleet cams as an extra set of supervisory eyes in every truck on the road. Additionally, fleet programs can create alternate routes when needed, keep track of vehicle maintenance needs, and monitor fuel usage in real-time. This translates into increase efficiency, awareness, and a healthier bottom line for the company.

Quarterly Performance Reviews and Flex Time

We can learn a lot by reviewing both our peers, and the best-in-class companies across the globe. All over the world, the traditional annual performance review is becoming a dinosaur. Modern managers have discovered that quarterly reviews are a better way to motivate team members, offer incentives, and keep track of incremental progress toward goals. If you can implement 360 reviews, even better. These are combined performance reviews from both your manager, peers, as well as subordinates (if applicable). This gives a more well-rounded point of view, as well as determining strengths and weaknesses across the board. Then we have flex time. This is another extremely popular benefit among new hires as well as long-term workers in companies of all sizes. It’s human nature to want to create your own schedule and adapt your work life to personal obligations. Owners like the fact that flex time is a motivator and costs them virtually nothing to implement. Simply trust in your employees, and you will find that most be counted on, and will appreciate and value the trust you have in them.
