We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Rob Hay: I’m a financial services executive who has worked in both consumer and corporate markets, leading teams in Product, Operational and Analytical environments. My specialities are business performance optimisation, product and process innovation and building high performance teams.
In the past year, what is the greatest business achievement you’d like to celebrate with your team? Please share the details of that success.
Rob Hay: At myPOS, we are on a mission to empower the growth of merchants by delivering affordable payment solutions based on cutting-edge technology.
We believe that every business, regardless how small it is, should have the opportunity to grow through modern technology. On that note, we consider our biggest success our growing client base and the fact that in the last year myPOS empowered even more business owners.
We are also happy to have launched our virtual payment terminal product for iPhones recently, which, as with our Android product, allows customers to securely accept card payments without requiring a separate keypad or any other additional hardware.
What advice do you wish you had received when you started your business journey and what do you intend on improving in the next quarter?
Rob Hay: You need to have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish – both as a person and as a business.
This is essential to success. To do that, we at myPOS listen carefully to our customers and devise solutions they need, often before the competition.
We will continue to improve on that and try to change the way SMEs, nano and micro merchants do business.
Online business keeps on surging higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for the year to come and how are you capitalizing on the tidal wave?
Rob Hay: As a fintech company, we embrace every opportunity which removes barriers for the business owners.
Our expectations are that online shopping and smartphone technology will continue to spread, and that the distinction between online and face-to-face commerce will blur still further.
We will capitalize on this to help merchants streamline business processes and eliminate customer friction.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?
Rob Hay: The biggest challenge continues to be that many small businesses are underserved and don’t get access to the same tools as the big players on the market. We try to change that. For us, as a fintech company, the future is not without challenges too.
The fintech sector will continue to transform the way people interact with their finances, while keeping up with new regulations, consumer preferences and security challenges.
In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a company? Can you share an example?
Rob Hay: Time is one of the most underestimated aspects. As a CEO, your time becomes a precious asset and you have to use it wisely.
The same is true for all business owners who have to wear multiple hats and often cannot find the time to manage different duties and relationships. That’s where myPOS tries to help.
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Rob Hay: A business will go as far as its vision, so a super-vision would be a great superpower to have.
This means the power to spot trends, obstacles and opportunities that others cannot see. The power to see unique chances and to capitalize on them.
