Non-traditional business ideas for those with start-up capital

Today it is possible for virtually anyone to become an entrepreneur with the right mindset, dedication and work ethic. Business has changed in such a way (mainly due to the internet, eCommerce, and social media) that it takes far less capital, investment, and expertise to build a company.

The main issue for most people is the idea. What type of business can you create? What product could you produce and sell? If you are looking for a fresh start, a career change, or a new path, we have listed five interesting non-traditional business ideas below. This ranges from affiliate sports betting on things like the Breeders Cup 2022, through to animal grooming, dog walking, and freelance writing.

Affiliate sports betting

Affiliate marketing can be a lucrative business and it is available in many different industries, including sports betting and online casinos. Essentially, you partner with different sportsbooks and use affiliate links to promote their business on their behalf.

When customers use your affiliate link and sign up to these platforms or spend money, you receive a commission. Things such as SEO knowledge, web development skills and content marketing experience are ideal here.

Also, as there is a great deal of competition, it could be beneficial to specialize in a particular sport such as horse racing or American football. For example, you could specialize in horse racing affiliate marketing and promote niche competitions such as the Breeders Cup 2022. Specializing in something like horse racing could enable you to beat the competition and offer something more.

Animal Grooming

Professional animal grooming is a big industry and there has been a conscious shift in the attitudes towards our pets and furry companions. People take far more care of their animals today and many love giving their dogs, horses and cats a pampering at a professional animal groomer.

These people are trained to deal with animals and know the care and grooming regime they need. If you have a skill with animals, and enjoy interactions with them, you could use your start-up capital to create a grooming business. This could require a dedicated grooming centre, but many businesses operate mobile too and travel to people’s homes to give them added convenience.

Dog walking

An area of business that has flourished in recent years is professional dog walking. Today, we live in a busy world where people often only have time to walk their pets once per day. Depending on the breed, this may not be enough to give your furry friend the exercise and freedom they need.

As a result, many people turn to dog walkers. This is a relatively simple business to start and does not require a huge amount of capital. Essentially, you would need adequate transportation such as a van, walking equipment and qualifications and training. If you enjoy the outdoors and love animals, this could be the perfect business opportunity.

Freelance writing

Online content today is a huge part of business. Companies need social media content, blog articles, web content and more. Did you know, however, that in most instances, these businesses do not use their own staff or hire their own writers to create this material?

Instead, they hire freelance writers using dedicated platforms. If you have a talent for writing, either creative or formal, becoming a freelance writer could be incredibly lucrative. It allows you to work from home, build your own office space and set your own hours. Moreover, if you have start-up capital, you could use your cash to build a freelance writing business with a team of content creators.

3D printing

In years past, 3D printers were huge machines that took up workshop space and were incredibly expensive. Essentially, they were not accessible to the general public. Furthermore, the technology was limited, and the end results were not always great quality.

Today, however, you can find a great range of affordable 3D printers for home use. Additionally, there are loads of websites dedicated to 3D printer blueprints and marketplaces where you can sell your designs or completed works. If you have a creative passion, why not look at buying a printer and trying to sell your ideas?

As you can see, there are some incredible niche business opportunities available for those with the right drive and a little start-up capital. These are just a few examples – there are hundreds more and you could indeed create an entirely new and unique company too.

One of the key pointers is to play to your strengths and choose something that you have a passion for or have excellent knowledge of. This will make the process easier, but all give you a more rewarding and exciting life experience.
