Comparison of data center simple proxies and residential ones

When it comes to protecting yourself from any form of harm that could come from the internet, you can rarely go wrong with the innovations from proxy servers. The paid versions are usually the best because they bring a lot more with each service being of a higher quality than that of free servers. Two of the best types of paid proxy servers are the data center and residential alternatives according to PrivateProxy. For those looking for the best of this technology, the question of data center proxies vs residential ones will come up eventually.

It is rather hard to say because each type comes with its merit and in some cases, can beat out the other in certain categories. Because of this, answering the question of data center proxies vs residential varieties has no set answer. However, there will always be a type that works for you, and this warrants a bit of an in-depth look and inevitable comparison of the two server types.

The datacenter proxies types

What differentiates these specialized servers from others is that they can be sourced from enterprises that use and offer cloud services. A server of this kind can properly hide your IP because it has no relation to your current provider. Despite this, all its capabilities regarding how they work throughout the world stay intact.

Often used for operations on a much larger scale such as market research and data gathering these proxy servers are also utilized for more mundane activities. Key characteristics of these servers are:

  • their ability to search for information,
  • ability to perform all the above duties globally without restrictions.

In addition to this their chain-like technology capabilities allow them to work all their social media platforms around possible bans that could come from doing the same on a single server.

The very chain tech that makes them function also gives them the capability of operating at high speeds and being affordable simultaneously. They also lack a physical location in terms of their source and this makes them difficult to spy on.

Unfortunately, the cloud that they are sourced from doesn’t work in their favor at all times and this is because setting them up to access specific global locations can be difficult. The same cloud tech can cause these proxies to be banned as the technology is not always accepted.

Residential type

The first of many key differences between the two versions is that residential servers, unlike their counterparts do have a link to your service provider. This means that the IP of each server issued will be on its own. Often, these proxies are owned by large companies which is in stark contrast with data center versions, which are usually owning the tech.

These proxies are often on a much smaller scale as compared to their counterparts. Their uses are mainly connected to data gathering and scraping on a much smaller scale. Activities such as online shopping are often done via this route which is coupled with the usual security.

Unlike their counterparts, residential proxies do not use any cloud technology. This means that they can perform all sorts of activities with only a small chance of being banned. They are also rather versatile with every activity able to be carried out without issue.

This comes with a price, however, as their rarity and source cost more to operate than other alternatives. This lack of support given to the service provider also means that the speed provided will also be lacking, which can be inconvenient for a user.

Similarities

Proxies have many advantages and similarities. A proxy uses its own IP address, so you can hide yours. All of the proxies could be used to change your perceived location. It’s especially useful for things like unblocking content or doing market research in a different region when you don’t want your location to affect the data you get.

There are quite a few things that separate the two types of proxies, but before getting to them, you have to realize that they have at least one similarity. Granted, said similarity is very much on the ground level and tends to connect every kind of server. This has everything to do with the fact that both proxies have a form of browsing anonymity and an ability to access global data.

Because their IP addresses are kept latent, both proxies can perform all internet-related duties while users remain hidden. Beyond this, there aren’t any other characteristics that these two sever types share and this leads to their differences.

Differences

The differences between the two types of servers can be seen in the way in which their benefits and drawbacks contrast each other. The above clearly shows that every advantage offered by one will heavily highlight the one thing that the other is lacking and these seem to be sectioned into four major categories. These are their:

  • prices,
  • uses,
  • speed,
  • reliability.

Though we know that a residential server is more expensive than a datacenter version and that the opposite is true for speed, the reason behind this is the IP address setup. Cloud vs singular setups is what ultimately makes them what they are.

Their reliability, however, is what will sway potential users in one way or another and can be thought of as the difference maker. This is because though both are considered to be reliable, the more common and physical users are not perceived to be as threatening as cloud technology. As such datacenter servers are far more susceptible to being blacklisted as compared to their residential alternative.

Final thoughts

Despite their differences, it is fair to say that neither data centers nor residential servers can be classified as surpassing the other outright. Their differences only highlight the number of uses each of them has. At the very least it gives users choices concerning which one will likely work for them.

However, that choice is quite limited considering how vastly different the users of either server are. The choices between the two are always based on the type of work that either is specifically built for. In short, both have their upside and downside and despite being compared to each other constantly, they share very little in common.
