Business Card Design: Hot Trends in 2021

Although our world is so digitized nowadays, names, or business, cards are still irreplaceable, especially when we are talking good business. The fact that you can see and touch them (or even smell) makes these cards special in the modern world, where the online format is an everyday routine. Thus it is quite worth paying attention to the trends in business cards design. Keeping track of them in the world of graphic design is important for both a designer and for business representatives. When a person gets an advertising product, be it a business card, booklet or brochure, it does not take a lot of time to realize whether the product is trendy or outdated.

2020 was not “ordinary” by any means. If living in a “new way” as it has developed during the pandemic has brought us something, it is the understanding that you need to continually adapt and grow your business if its prosperity is your goal. Therefore, if you and your brand from the very beginning use the same business card, it’s high time you present a new face.

You do not need to understand graphic design to draw such a conclusion. There is such a huge flow of graphic content nowadays that users develop a certain feeling of a good picture. With a business card maker, you and your brand will always be at a top-level.

1. Minimalism

Minimalism has not given up its positions this year. Minimum graphics, maximum information and usefulness. The simpler the better. These principles are especially relevant when working on business cards design.

2. Inspired by nature

Soft, comfortable and natural colours, smooth lines, as close as possible to those that we can see in nature.

3. Gold Embossing

2021 has made bright metallic accents super popular and trendy, especially when combined with a minimalistic approach.

4. Transparency

Transparent business cards are probably the most high-tech design chosen to be quite futuristic and sharp.

5. Monochrome and a two-tone design

Choosing a set of limited colours when working on your design has been quite a popular thing to do. Choosing this style helps to create a simple but stylish product in order not to confuse the brain with a tricky combination of all the structural elements.

6. Dark background with colourful gradients on top

Only imagine shiny colours that shimmer on a dark background sparkling and creating an image of light waves. With a gradient, these structures seem continuous; not enclosed in rigid forms or clear boundaries.

7. Say YES to QR-codes

Say YES to QR-codes

QR codes have quickly become an amazing trend not only in the field of business cards but overall in many other spheres of our lives. It is an easy way to provide straight access to your company’s website or your personal blog or portfolio.

8. Astonishing, non-standard text alignment

Text experiments will always help you to adjust to any changes in trends. Better leave behind the ordinary left to right alignment and start exploring. Just do not forget about readability when creating a freestyle for your designs, as you do not want to lose your clients due to information overload, which is quite easy to fall for.

9. Matching colours

What exactly lies underneath “matching colours”? It means that your business cards are alternatively painted. So, let’s say the colour palette of your brand is dark green, cream and metallic grey. You can make business cards with identical text, but some of them will be green with text in cream colour and metallic accents, some – grey with not quite white text and dark green accents. Pick your colour palette and explore various options.

10. Smart geometric patterns

This trend is definitely a nice solution for design: the usage of separate shapes to create something more complex. Small and large blocks, often with vibrant colours and outlines, are mixed and matched. This year, geometry tends to be a popular designer move not only on name cards or packaging but also on book jackets, clothing, brand logos, and other types of design. Geometry having sharp and curvy patterns helps your products shine with futuristic vibes. This may be due to symmetry, or on the contrary – dissymmetry but it is often imagined that they are created by something super-intelligent. It looks technically savvy and elegant.

Go ahead with a brand new design

Having got familiar with the above-mentioned trends in the field of business cards design, you probably might consider at least reshaping your design, adding some new bright touches. When having a fresh start, rebranding your business or rethinking what you have been investing in, business cards make a huge impression when presenting your brand and, thus, they are still a thing nowadays. It is high time you face the world having a brand new look – just out of your pocket.
