We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Vivek Patel: My name is Vivek Patel and I am the founder and CEO of OmMuse. I am also a board certified radiation oncologist. OmMuse is a collaborative platform that allows musicians to create, organize, and derive the highest value out of their work through a host of innovative tools.
The central part of platform is the OmMuse Hub where artists can easily upload their entire music catalog–both work in progress and completed works. The uploaded data is organized with our AI tools.
Artists can directly collaborate and share music with musicians. Once a work is completed, musicians can decide to go through a pathway of sharing, mastering with Dolby.io, minting through our proprietary smart contract process, or distributing their music via DSP of choice–coming soon.
What inspired you to start OmMuse?
Vivek Patel: I am a practicing physician. Music, alongside medicine, has always been a passion.
As a lifelong music enthusiast, who admittedly isn’t talented enough to be a career musician, I have always wanted to contribute to musical collaboration to unleash my creative potential while solving some of the issues in the industry.
In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a startup?
Vivek Patel: The people who are part of your core team are key to your company’s success.
Ideally your core team will have complementary skill sets consisting of technical ability, proven industry experience, and perseverance to accomplish the task at hand.
What’s it like to juggle being a doctor and a startup CEO?
Vivek Patel: Being a full time physician and startup CEO is highly demanding and requires significant time management skills.
My medical training has been key to maintaining a regimen. On a daily basis I optimize my schedule and try to plan in advance.
What parallels do you see as a leader both in the medical world and in the startup/business world?
Vivek Patel: As the director of a comprehensive cancer center and throughout my medical training, I have always sought leadership opportunities to improve the outcomes of our goal.
Oftentimes, this would mean identifying a problem and providing a solution. My leadership experiences in medicine have been very similar to those in the startup world.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What are some current challenges you’ve faced while growing OmMuse?
Vivek Patel: Startups face numerous challenges from idea to execution and OmMuse is no different.
The ethos of our platform has always been the same; however, we have pivoted a few times to be a more appropriate market fit. Although resources were utilized for our efforts, we have learned from those experiences.
How do you see AI evolving in your industry over the next 5 years?
Vivek Patel: There will be a significant evolution in our understanding and use of AI in the music industry.
AI will continue to be welcome in the music industry as it is being utilized on OmMuse and other platforms to enhance efficiency and productivity; however, the use of AI for music creation and subsequent distribution and compensation will have to be heavily evaluated as we implement this technology to ensure it gives our users the most benefits and in the most compliant manner.
