Tips to Effectively Use Social Media for Your Wedding

While you prepare your gorgeous wedding dress, rings, wedding venues, photographs, decorations, food and drinks, and many more, a good way to make your big day more classic and memorable is to intentionally use social media for your wedding.

Even though we are in the social media era, not everyone with unrestricted access to the internet can use social media platforms well. If you want to get the best out of social media for your wedding, the following tips will help you.

6 Tips to help you Effectively Use Social Media for Your Wedding Day

1. Choose your Social Media Manager

On your big day, you will need to focus and concentrate as the event is going on. Holding your phone, pressing it, and taking pictures by yourself might be distracting. Moreover, you are the center of attraction on this day and so you should not necessarily be busy sorting social media things yourself.

Hence, during the wedding planning process, assign all social media tasks to someone. It could be a cousin, a friend, or anyone you can trust to do the work.

Ensure this person is knowledgeable about social media. Let him or her do the posting on your behalf. Before the day, let your assigned social media manager know your preference for pictures, which particular part of the event should not be missed, what and what not to be captured, the caption you will like them to use on your pictures, and many more.

2. Consider Checking Social media platforms before shopping

Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook could be the best place to get ideas for the best-fitted and latest wedding dress and rings. Because you will be putting out your wedding pictures on social media, check out trends of other latest couples’ wedding dresses, rings, etc across various social media platforms before purchasing.

Additionally, for your wedding rings, you can check out and connect with popular online wedding ring stores like mensweddingbands.io via their social media handles to get updated about new trends.

3. Have a social media group for your guest

This should be created before the wedding day as it will not only be useful on the big day but is required during the planning process too. A social media group for your guest will serve as a channel in which you can communicate any information to the guest on the wedding day and before the day.

If you need to remind them of your wedding venue or you like to tell them the dress code, a social media group will be sufficient. And more so, it gives the guest an avenue to relate and know themselves right from the group before meeting physically at the wedding venue.

4. Politely request for a no-photo taking during the event

These days, it is very common to see several unprofessional pictures of newly wedded couples on social media and in most cases, these pictures are taken by the guests. A professional picture portrays the beauty of that big day while an unprofessional one could hamper that beauty.

To avoid this, politely announce through the group to the guest that you would not like them to take pictures on the big day. Let them know that you’ve hired a photographer who will do all the work. Assure them that the pictures taken by the photographer will be sent to the group during the event so they can post them.

Apart from the fact that pictures taken by professionals are usually of high quality, disapproving your guest from taking pictures allows the photographer to do the best work as he won’t be distracted by guests who like to record events.

5. Create your unique hashtag

Hashtags for wedding pictures and videos are now common and they are a great way to keep your wedding memories on social media. Hashtags could be created in several ways and it doesn’t necessarily have to be something ambiguous, it should just be something simple and memorable.

You can create hashtags from your names, nicknames, or a nickname that you both shared. There is no one way to create a hashtag, so feel free to choose what you want. Alternatively, you can use some hashtag generators online to simply create for you.

When you have the hashtag, you would want to ensure that your guest is familiar with it so they can use it on all their posts. So include your hashtag in your invitation letter. For all the posts you will make before the big day, use your hashtag.

On D-day, include the hashtag on your table menu, gift, designs and decorations, and many more to help them remember it always.

6. Have your photos shared on social media

You should agree with your photographer on the number of photos and videos that must be shared with you on the wedding day. Even if it will take them quite some time to edit your pictures and videos, they should be able to share a few with you on the day.

When you have them, you should share them with the group where your guest is. With this, you would be able to create that memorable social media presence on your wedding day.

One more thing… Should You Livestream on your Wedding Day?

Yes, you should Livestream on your wedding day. Apart from taking pictures and videos of the day, another way to maximize the use of social media on your big day is to go live. The following are the reasons why you should go streaming on the day.

  • Videos from your professional photographer could take some time before it is available to you. But with live streaming, you already have a video to yourself.
  • While couples plan for their wedding, there is usually one of their loved ones that wouldn’t make it to the wedding. Live streaming helps this group of people to be part of the occasion. More so, if you are an influencer, celebrity, or social media figure, then it becomes easier for your fans to follow through with the event.
  • With live streaming, you cut the cost on a good number of guests who would have been present physically. And for the guest, the distance would not necessarily be a barrier.

Conclusion

To experience a more memorable event on your day, ensure you include the use of social media. If you’re not sure how to go about it, follow the tips above.
