We asked CEO of The Sartorial Shop Zahir Rajani to share his insights on how men’s fashion will change in 2025. Here’s what he had to say…
With this year’s most iconic fashion weeks behind us – New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week currently in swing – we can now look to the year ahead.
While 2024 was defined by risk taking and experimental looks, 2025 is being defined as the year of the Classic Dresser. Mens streetwear will remain a melting pot of expressions where personal style meets urban influence, but the return to office and rise in social events has led to the return of formalwear. Essentially, The “return to life” has led to the return of ties, business attire and men’s suits, upping the ante on the need for casual luxury and also, just simply pure luxury. While boomers would never choose not to wear a tie to a formal event or the office, plenty of Gen Z dressers have yet to learn how to tie one.
The rebirth of classic looks and removal of causal comfort is in full swing. Here are some of the top trends making a comeback (and entrance) in 2025.
Quiet Luxury: The Florentine Cut
What will be making headlines in 2025 is the Florentine Cut – one of our favorites, and an extremely difficult suit style to get right, also, as a first in Canada, it will be a new addition to The Sartorial Shop.
The Florentine Cut is a suit jacket that’s tailored for both the fashion-forward and true sartorialist. Inspired by how the city of Florence was built, what makes these suit jackets unique is they do not have the front dart, and, instead, the waist is shaped by a hidden underarm dart. The front has an uninterrupted and uncut panel, perfect for showing off the beauty of a pattern. What makes this cut particularly difficult is the shaping a tailor has to do, utilizing only the side/underarm dart.
While these suit jackets can be designed in North America at select ateliers like ours, they can only be canvassed, handmade and finished in Italy. This is because only a few select tailors in Florence can do this. The Florentine Cut is sophisticated, unique and screams quiet luxury.
Know Your Fabrics
It’s no secret that custom and bespoke tailoring is the way to go, however 2025 is all about knowing your fabrics. For instance, being draped by anything Vitale Barbero Canonico (VBC), one of the oldest fabric mills in the world, will set you apart from the crowd, but Drapers, specifically, which is owned by VBC, has done something no other Italian brand has ever done — they have have created and released a multi-fabric quality for 2025.
Typically when fabric mills release fabrics, they offer, for example, a range of qualities which is either on the softer and lighter side, or on the heavier side, rarely will they offer both in one season. Drapers has created a collection which encompasses all different types of qualities, weights, finishes, patterns, weaves, and fabric blends. Something which should accommodate all suit goers, regardless of their style preference. VBC has been around since 1663 and it is only now that they have done something like this.
Some of my other fabric brand recommendations for 2025 are Loro Piana, Scabal, Dormeuil and Holland & Sherry.
Sticking to a tailored suit
Sticking to a tailored suit will never be a fashion faux pas. Beautifully cut suits will always have their place in menswear, however what’s key this year are the details.
In order to look sharp and refined, really pay attention to things like collar gaps and forward shoulders, button formation issues and bagginess at the hem of your pants. These are all no-no’s. These wardrobe malfunctions can easily be eliminated by purchasing a suit in the right size, selecting brands and fabrics that work for your body type or by having a suit fully custom-made for you.
For the year ahead, the indispensable suit colors every man should have in his closet remain the Classic Black Suit, Navy Suit, Brown Suit, Grey Suit and a Tan or Linen suit. If you’re missing one of these, now’s the time to expand your wardrobe.
About The Sartorial Shop
The Sartorial Shop specializes in bespoke and custom, one-of-one pieces — primarily suiting, but we create and design everything from bespoke suits to sport jackets, blazers, formal wear, skirts, and overcoats for customers across North America. Catering to both men and women, we’ve differentiated ourselves by simply doing things differently. The art of making a bespoke garment starts long before scissors meet fabric. To get it right, it needs to be about you; your body and body type. Unlike made-to-measure garments, where you only need to take three to four body measurements, we take over 30 measurements and postural notes. That way the piece is created to you and everything that’s unique about you, instead of the other way around.
