Company: Linarc

We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.

Shanthi Rajan: I’m Shanthi Rajan, the Founder and CEO of Linarc, a collaborative, centralized, cloud-based management platform purpose-built for the construction industry.

My background is in enterprise software, where I worked with large-scale systems and complex operations. What’s always driven me is solving real-world problems, especially where coordination and communication are critical. That’s what drew me to construction—an industry that powers our world, yet often lacks the tools to match the complexity of the work.

I started Linarc to change that. We built a cloud-based platform that connects the field to the office, streamlines communication, and gives contractors and developers the clarity and efficiency they need to keep projects moving on time and on budget.

At Linarc, we work directly with builders, trade contractors, and owner/developers to understand where things break down and we design our tools to fix that. I spend a lot of time listening to the people in the field and the folks running the business, because that’s where the best insights come from. For me, it’s about more than technology, it’s about making construction simpler, more transparent, and easier to manage for the people who do the real work every day
Being a woman founder in both tech and construction, I’m deeply committed to inclusivity, mentorship, and leading with intention. At the end of the day, I believe technology should serve people, not the other way around.

What emerging technology trends do you believe will have the most profound impact in the next 5-10 years?

Shanthi Rajan: A major trend I am starting to see is the widespread adoption of AI-powered real-time quality inspections using drones and computer vision. This isn’t just about catching defects faster; it fundamentally changes how we ensure safety and compliance, reducing rework and risk. However, this surge in on-site surveillance sparks critical conversations about data privacy, worker autonomy, and ethical responsibility, a challenge the industry must confront head-on and soon.

Another significant development is AI-driven supply chain intelligence. By leveraging machine learning to predict demand fluctuations and identify vulnerabilities, construction teams can proactively manage materials, mitigating costly delays and navigating increasingly volatile markets with agility. This predictive capability transforms supply chain management from reactive firefighting into strategic planning.

What’s truly transformative is how these AI innovations are converging and creating integrated platforms, like Linarc that connect the field, office, and supply chain into one seamless digital ecosystem. But the companies that will lead are those who balance technical innovation with a deep respect for human impact—prioritizing transparency, ethical use of data, and empowering the workforce rather than replacing it. AI in construction isn’t just about technology; it’s about reshaping how we build, collaborate, and sustain our world.

Can you share a specific technological breakthrough from your company that has the potential to reshape your industry?

Shanthi Rajan: Absolutely. At Linarc, one of our breakthrough innovations, the AI-enhanced collaborative scheduling engine, is fundamentally reshaping how construction teams plan, execute, and deliver projects. Designed around a smart Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), this tool doesn’t just track progress, it intelligently drives it. Every task is automatically matched with the right crews, equipment, and materials, with predictive analytics utilizing historic and current data that identifies bottlenecks before they happen and dynamically reallocate resources and labor to keep everything on track.

What makes it truly transformative is the real-time synchronization between the field and the office. As soon as a crew logs progress or updates timelines on-site, the master schedule adjusts instantly, triggering alerts, updating dependencies, even issuing purchase orders when needed. No delays, no silos, just seamless coordination across your entire team.

But it doesn’t stop at individual projects. Our scheduler looks across your entire project portfolio, reallocating crews and equipment between jobs to eliminate downtime and maximize utilization. It’s company-wide optimization in action.

This is where simplicity meets intelligence: a clean, intuitive interface for field teams, powered by a sophisticated AI engine behind the scenes. The result? Faster completions, fewer delays, reduced overhead, and healthier margins. Whether you’re a growing subcontractor or a GC managing dozens of active projects, it scales with you; fully cloud-based, API-friendly, and ready to integrate with your existing ERP, accounting, or BIM tools.

It’s more than just a scheduling tool, it’s Linarc’s strategic advantage. It transforms reactive project management into a proactive, streamlined operation. And for the construction leaders embracing it, it’s a competitive edge that delivers real impact, from the ground up.

How do you approach innovation while balancing the need for practicality and market readiness?

Shanthi Rajan: At our core, we see innovation not as an abstract ideal, but as a disciplined practice, one that’s deeply attuned to the realities of construction. In an industry where margins are tight, timelines are rigid, and the stakes are high, innovation must earn its place. It has to be functional, intuitive, and grounded in immediate value.

We foster innovation by listening first. Our product roadmap is shaped through ongoing dialogue with project managers, field crews, and back-office teams. When you build with the people who use the technology, not just for them, you’re more likely to create solutions that solve real, not hypothetical, problems.

We also embrace a philosophy of modular innovation. Rather than pursuing disruption for its own sake, we focus on progressive, layered enhancements that integrate seamlessly with current workflows. That allows our clients to adopt new capabilities without overhauling everything overnight. It’s smarter to evolve than to impose.

From a leadership standpoint, I encourage my team to experiment with purpose. We test early, fail quickly, and measure constantly. But we’re also unapologetically pragmatic. If a feature is elegant but doesn’t accelerate a schedule, reduce rework, or improve field coordination, we go back to the drawing board. Market readiness isn’t about perfection, it’s about relevance.

Ultimately, innovation is about improving efficiency, not just impressing with features. When you lead with empathy and stay anchored in the day-to-day realities of the people building our world, that’s when technology becomes truly transformative.

What challenges do you face in integrating cutting-edge technology into existing business models?

Shanthi Rajan: One of the biggest challenges we face at Linarc is the inertia of legacy systems and mindsets. Construction is an industry built on experience, tradition, reputation, handshakes and risk mitigation. While that pragmatism is valuable, it can also make change slow; especially when innovation disrupts long-standing workflows and processes or calls for rethinking how teams collaborate across the project lifecycle.

Another challenge is integration across fragmented ecosystems. Our partners, clients, and vendors often use an array of apps and platforms to manage one project. Many of which don’t communicate well with each other or at all. Even the most sophisticated tech has limited impact if it can’t plug and integrate seamlessly into the broader operational fabric. So we invest heavily in interoperability, building bridges rather than silos.

There’s also a trust gap to navigate. People need to see not just the promise of technology, but its practical value on time, on budget, in the field. That means designing with clarity, training with intention, and demonstrating ROI in ways that resonate from the jobsite to the boardroom. This industry can be slow to change, but when that change brings increased efficiency, productivity, and profitability they are apt to listen.

Finally, there’s the human side. Change management isn’t just about systems, it’s about people. Empowering teams, listening to concerns, and aligning innovation with real-world needs is essential. We don’t push transformation from the top down, we co-create it with the people who live it every day.

How do you foster a culture of innovation within your organization to stay ahead in the tech race?

Shanthi Rajan: Preparing for the next wave of innovation in construction means cultivating a diverse set of skills across our entire team; whether they’re engineers, office staff, or field professionals. At Linarc, we focus on blending deep technical expertise with practical industry knowledge and strong interpersonal skills.

For our platform engineers, the emphasis is on advanced AI and machine learning proficiency, cloud computing, and data analytics paired with a deep understanding of construction workflows. They must not only build robust, scalable systems but also ensure those systems are intuitive for users on-site and in the office.

Our office teams are sharpening their data literacy and digital collaboration skills. Understanding AI-driven insights and translating them into actionable decisions is critical, as is fostering cross-functional communication to bridge technology and operations seamlessly. They also have been using tools like ChatGPT, Canva, Hupspot to automate, align, and optimize our marketing efforts

Above all, we nurture a culture of curiosity and growth, recognizing that technology serves people, not the other way around. As a leader, I believe empowering our team with both technical skills and continued learning is the key to building solutions that truly make a difference.
