Entrepreneurs are people willing to take risks, think creatively, and find innovative solutions to problems.
They are often driven by a passion for their ideas and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. The journey of an entrepreneur is often filled with challenges and obstacles, but with a growth mindset and perseverance, they can overcome them to achieve success.
In today’s world, entrepreneurship is not just about setting up a business, but also creating an empire that grows and flourishes over time. One such successful entrepreneur is Parima Ijaz, the owner of Pure Parima. Her story is an inspiration to many who aspire to start their own businesses.
Parima Ijaz started Pure Parima while completing her Political Science degree at Rutgers University. After watching the news of many retailers being sued for false advertising, she decided to bring her knowledge of the textile industry — much of which she learned from her father’s 30 years of experience in the industry — and create her own 100% Egyptian cotton line.
Pure Parima is now a luxury bedding brand that offers high-quality sheets made from CEA certified 100% Egyptian cotton.
Challenges faced
Starting a business is never an easy task, and Parima Ijaz faced her fair share of challenges along the way.
Firstly, “breaking into a stained marker amidst a nationwide scandal was difficult,” she shares. Breaking through that barrier can be difficult on its own, but then paired with what most entrepreneurs face makes it seemingly impossible.
“It was a tedious, yet rewarding process that took over a year to develop, audit, and certify our products to guarantee authenticity,” Parima recounts. However, it’s important to overestimate whatever your expectations are.
One of the biggest challenges budding entrepreneurs face is the hustle mentality, not taking into consideration that they need the bandwidth to achieve the hustle.
“When you’re working long hours and building something great, you need more than a financial motive to keep you going,” she advises.
Overcoming challenges
Despite the challenges, Parima was determined to make her business a success. She was confident in her product and knew that if she could get it in front of the right audience, they would love it.
She started by focusing on her customers and ensuring they were satisfied with her product. She also invested in marketing and advertising to increase brand awareness.
Parima also sought out mentors and advisors who could guide her along the way. She joined entrepreneur networks and attended business events to learn from other successful business owners.
“I believe mentorship is crucial,” she insists. She was not afraid to ask for help and advice, which helped her overcome some of the challenges she faced. “Make sure their work inspires you and has yielded the results you aspire to have,” she shares.
Lessons learned
Parima’s journey has taught her many valuable lessons that she has applied to her business. The first lesson is the importance of perseverance and staying humble. “Starting a business is not easy,” she shares. “If it were, everyone would be doing it.”
She also advises not to be envious of others’ success, but instead, “admire and become inspired.” There will be many challenges along the way. However, if you stay committed and focused on your goals, you can overcome those challenges and achieve success.
Another lesson Parima learned is the importance of building relationships. She invested time in building relationships with her customers, suppliers, and advisors. These relationships have helped her business grow and thrive over time.
Parima also learned the importance of taking risks. Starting a business is a risky venture, and there is no guarantee of success. However, if you take calculated risks and are willing to step outside your comfort zone, you can achieve great things.
“Creating a product or service that becomes crucial to their everyday life is how you grow a customer base through brand recognition and loyalty,” Parima affirms.
Most notably, Parima shares one life quote that helps her with success, “Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, said, ‘Be the CEO your parents always wanted you to marry.’ And that’s who I plan to continue to become.”
Essentially, the goal is to become the person you aspire to be, not thinking about profit, but thinking about what they’re doing and how you can achieve that.
In a world where change is constant and challenges are inevitable, the entrepreneurial spirit offers a beacon of hope and inspiration for those who dare to dream, create, and make a difference. Parima Ijaz’s success story is a testament to the power of hard work, determination, and perseverance.
She faced many challenges along the way, but she overcame them through her dedication and commitment to her business. Her story is an inspiration to anyone who wants to start their own business and shows that, with the right mindset and attitude, anything is possible.
