Thank you for joining us today. Please introduce yourself to our readers. They want to know you, some of the background story to bring some context to your interview.
Milosz Krasinski: I began my business some years ago now and specialize in SEO and website building. My ‘thing’ is that I focus on getting real, tangible results for my clients – SEO can be seen as a bit ‘wishy washy’ and hard to quantify, which can make people nervous about investing in it. I show clients results that I have previously gained and work hard to improve on them.
You are a successful entrepreneur, so we’d like your viewpoint, do you believe entrepreneurs are born or made? Explain.
Milosz Krasinski: I would say that entrepreneurs are made. You need drive, determination, and a proper belief in yourself and your skills. Many fall by the wayside simply because they don’t have the stamina to overcome the roadblocks and motor ahead to success.
If you were asked to describe yourself as an entrepreneur in a few words, what would you say?
Milosz Krasinski: Constantly pushing the envelope to build my business and that of my clients through innovation.
Tell us about what your company does and how did it change over the years?
Milosz Krasinski: I began quite simply as a website company but then became obsessed with SEO and how it can grow a business. I learned everything there is to know about it and then began adding my innovations to offer a unique service to my clients.
Thank you for all that. Now for the main focus of this interview. With close to 11.000 new businesses registered daily in the US, what must an entrepreneur assume when starting a business?
Milosz Krasinski: You must assume that it’s all been done before – but that you can do it either differently or better.
Did you make any wrong assumptions before starting a business that you ended up paying dearly for?
Milosz Krasinski: Absolutely, I think most people do. I tried to scale too quickly and assumed that my clients wouldn’t notice – they did. I then scaled back and decided to serve fewer clients with more quality;
If you could go back in time to when you first started your business, what advice would you give yourself and why? Explain.
Milosz Krasinski: I would focus on a few niche services rather than trying to spread myself too thin with too many notches to my belt.
What is the worst advice you received regarding running a business and what lesson would you like others to learn from your experience?
Milosz Krasinski: Somebody once told me that the way forward is to gather as many clients as you possibly can straight away. I discovered that this was disastrous advice as I ended up losing clients and skating close to losing my business as I was spreading myself dangerously thin and not providing the service that my clients deserved. Thankfully, I learned from this and my business survived.
In your opinion, how has COVID-19 changed what entrepreneurs should assume before starting a business? What hasn’t changed?
Milosz Krasinski: There have been some big changes – mainly in that sales messaging no longer works – what does work is showing empathy and showing that you understand your customers’ pain points and can provide a solution.
What is a common myth about entrepreneurship that aspiring entrepreneurs and would-be business owners believe in? What advice would you give them?
Milosz Krasinski: Ah yes, one of the most common myths is that you will instantly make lots of cash. Unfortunately, this just isn’t true – you need a few years of hard work and determination if you want to see the cash start coming in.
What traits, qualities, and assumptions do you believe are most important to have before starting a business?
Milosz Krasinski: You need a thick skin, determination, and a great deal of persuasion. It also helps if you have writing skills as content is very much king these days.
How can aspiring leaders prepare themselves for the future challenges of entrepreneurship? Are there any books, websites, or even movies to learn from?
Milosz Krasinski: First, you need to have a solid plan of what you want to achieve and when. Put together a business plan even if you don’t need one as this will provide you with a template for the first few years of your business. Peter Thiel’s Zero To One is a great book for those thinking about starting in business for themselves.
You have shared quite a bit of your wisdom and our readers thank you for your generosity but would also love to know: If you could choose any job other than being an entrepreneur, what would it be?
Milosz Krasinski: I would love to be a politician as I enjoy making things happen – today my business, tomorrow the world! 🙂
