Meet Mariela De La Mora, a mother and EQ Certified Leadership Coach who supports organizations and WOC founders through leadership coaching and emotional intelligence.
She left a 16-year career as Director of Marketing and led international teams to build her own company. Since then she has served hundreds of WOC founders and organizations to help develop their leadership, emotional intelligence, and mindset.
For 16 years, Mariela helped multi-billion dollar companies and startups build profitable brands while growing and leading award-nominated marketing teams across the world. She has had the pleasure of working with some of the largest corporations including the United Nations, Google, and Mulesoft to name a few.
Now, she helps entrepreneurs and working professionals become confident and empowered leaders by infusing identity-specific mindset, emotional intelligence, and business strategy.
She knows what it’s like to be the youngest and only woman of color sitting at the leadership table. But she’s making sure she is not the last.
The biggest challenge she faced on her journey to success was her own mindset and fears, especially as a daughter of immigrants who was raised to play it safe.
Mariela feared failure, but entrepreneurship requires it. She feared judgment, but no one who was qualified to give her advice ever judged her. She overcame her mindset challenges by surrounding herself with growth-minded people and finding community, vs expecting her friends and family to validate what she was doing – only she could do that.
She protected her business in the early stages, much like you would a little fledgling plant that’s still growing its roots, by not sharing it with those outside her entrepreneurial community. She didn’t want to be influenced or questioned while her own confidence in her business was still being built up.
When she was starting out, the advice she wishes she had is this: growing a successful business is so much more about becoming an entrepreneur who can make decisions and solve problems vs trying to get everything right along the way (you won’t).
And no one who has achieved success will ever judge you for your mistakes in business because they know it’s a never ending part of the journey.
