NO child ever says I want to be a CEO/entrepreneur when I grow up. What did you want to be and how did you get where you are today?
Joshua Haley: When I was young, I wanted to be a firefighter. I loved the idea of helping people and putting out fires. But when I got older, I realized that didn’t really interest me anymore. So, I started thinking about what else I could do that would make me happy. That’s when I came up with the idea for my own business.
I started by doing a lot of research and studying what other successful businesses were doing. Then, I set out to create my own plan and put it into action. It was a lot of hard work, but it was worth it in the end. Today, my business is doing well and I’m able to help people in other ways too – by moving them to new homes or providing them with useful information about moving.
Tell us something about yourself that others in your organization might be surprised to know.
Joshua Haley: I’m actually a pretty introverted person. I don’t like being in the spotlight and I don’t always feel comfortable being the center of attention. But, when it comes to my business, I’m passionate about what I do and I love helping people. So, I’ve learned to step out of my comfort zone and put myself out there – it’s been worth it in the end!
Many readers may wonder how to become an entrepreneur but what is an entrepreneur? How would you define it?
Joshua Haley: An entrepreneur is someone who is willing to take risks and put in the hard work to make their vision a reality. It’s not an easy path, but it can be very rewarding.
What is the importance of having a supportive and inclusive culture?
Joshua Haley: A supportive and inclusive culture is important for any organization, but it’s especially important for entrepreneurs. When you’re starting a business, there will be a lot of ups and downs. Having a team that supports you and believes in your vision can make all the difference.
How can a leader be disruptive in the post covid world?
Joshua Haley: There are a lot of ways that leaders can be disruptive in the post-covid world. One way is to rethink the way we do business. For example, many businesses are now moving towards a more remote work model. This allows employees to work from anywhere in the world, which can be a great way to attract top talent.
Another way leaders can be disruptive is by investing in new technology. We’re living in a time where technology is changing very rapidly. Leaders who are willing to invest in new technologies will be able to take advantage of these changes and create a competitive edge for their businesses.
If a 5-year-old asked you to describe your job, what would you tell them?
Joshua Haley: I help people move to new homes. I make sure that everything goes smoothly and that they have all the information they need to make the move stress-free.
Share with us one of the most difficult decisions you had to make for your company that benefited your employees or customers. What made this decision so difficult and what were the positive impacts?
Joshua Haley: One of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make for my company is deciding whether or not to outsource certain tasks. Outsourcing can be a great way to save money and increase efficiency, but it can also be risky. If you outsource something that’s critical to your business, you could end up in a bad situation. At the end of the day, I decided to outsource some of the non-critical tasks in my business. This has allowed me to focus on the things that are most important and has helped me to provide a better experience for my customers.
Leaders are usually asked about their most useful qualities but let’s change things up a bit. What is your most useless talent?
Joshua Haley: Haha! well I’m not sure if it’s a talent or just a weird quirk but I can wiggle my ears. It’s not something that’s come in handy too often but it always seems to impress people for some reason!
Thank you so much for your time but before we finish things off, we do have one more question. If you wrote a book about your life until today, what would the title be?
Joshua Haley: That’s a tough question but I think the title would be something like “The Road to Entrepreneurship.” It would be about my journey from being a corporate employee to starting my own business. I would share all the ups and downs, the lessons I’ve learned, and how I’ve been able to create a successful business despite all the challenges.
