Company: Mikku & Sons Roofing

We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company

Josh Riutta: My name is Josh Riutta and I have over 25 years in the roofing industry. I own Mikku and Sons Roofing and also have experience as a general contractor. Besides work, I am an avid mountain biker and loves the outdoors.

Mikku and Sons Roofing is a family operated roofing company that’s been providing top quality, professional roof repair and roof installation services in the Phoenix and Maricopa County area since 2001 (ROC#167482). We service all cities in the Valley of The Sun, both east side and west side. We specialize in tile roofs, composite shingle roofs, flat roofs, foam roofs and single-ply roofs.

Our roofing company was founded in 2001 by Michael “Mikku” Riutta, who is still part of the ownership and management team. Between Michael, his two sons and co-owners, Devin and Joshua, and our crew members, we have many years of experience to handle any type of roof repair or roof installation solutions you may need.

How has your approach to leadership evolved to meet the changing expectations of today’s workforce, especially regarding remote and hybrid work?

Josh Riutta: We’ve embraced flexibility wherever we can, especially for our office team. I focus on clear goals and regular check-ins to keep everyone on track, and we use collaborative tools to stay connected no matter where we are.

What specific strategies have you implemented to foster Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within your organization?

Josh Riutta: We prioritize fair hiring and an inclusive work culture, with ongoing training and open dialogue. I want everyone to feel respected and heard, knowing that diverse perspectives make us stronger.

How do you keep your team engaged and motivated in a workplace culture that increasingly values flexibility and work-life balance?

Josh Riutta: We’re flexible with schedules and promote a balanced workload. Regular team events, recognition, and chances for growth keep the energy high and the team motivated.

What do you see as the biggest challenges in preparing for the future workforce, and how are you addressing them?

Josh Riutta: Attracting skilled workers is tough as more young people choose tech careers. We’re addressing this by offering training, partnering with trade schools, and making sure our culture supports growth and stability.

How has the shift toward digital and remote collaboration affected your company culture, and what adjustments have you made to maintain a strong, cohesive team?

Josh Riutta: Digital tools help us stay connected, but we make sure to have regular in-person meet-ups to keep our close-knit feel. It’s a balance of tech and face-to-face time that keeps our culture strong.
