As a co-founder of Conscious Family Law & Mediation, LLC, John Hoelle has dedicated his career to helping families navigate the challenging landscape of divorce. With a unique background that spans documentary filmmaking and legal practice, Hoelle brings a diverse set of skills to his role as an attorney-mediator, allowing him to guide his clients through one of life’s most difficult transitions with compassion, creativity, and a steadfast commitment to minimizing trauma for all involved.
Hoelle’s path to family law was an unconventional one. He began his professional life as a documentary film editor, honing his storytelling abilities and developing a keen eye for transforming raw footage into compelling narratives. This experience would later prove invaluable in his legal career, as he learned to craft persuasive arguments and present complex information in a clear, accessible manner.
When he felt called to pursue a career in law, Hoelle found that his analytical strengths and creative problem-solving skills were well-suited to the challenges of legal practice. He earned his law degree from the University of Colorado Law School, where he served on the Law Review, and went on to clerk for several judges at the Boulder District Court. This experience gave him a deep understanding of the inner workings of the legal system and the importance of effective advocacy.
“In every divorce, there is an opportunity for growth and transformation, even amidst the pain and upheaval. My role is to help couples find that path forward, to guide them in creating a new vision for their lives and their families that allows everyone to thrive.” said Hoelle, co-founder of Conscious Family Law & Mediation.
However, it was in his role as a Conscious Family mediator that Hoelle found his true calling. In this capacity, he is able to draw upon his diverse skill set to help families resolve conflicts and develop workable arrangements that prioritize the well-being of children. As a father himself, Hoelle is acutely aware of the lasting impact that a traumatic divorce can have on a child’s life. He is driven by a desire to help parents create a stable, nurturing home environment for their children, even in the midst of a difficult transition.
Hoelle’s approach to family law mediation is grounded in the Collaborative Law model, which emphasizes open communication, creative problem-solving, and a commitment to avoiding adversarial litigation whenever possible. He has received extensive training in this model, as well as in mediation techniques more broadly. He is an alumnus of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, the Colorado Bar Association’s 40-hour mediation training and Advanced Mediation Training, and the Colorado Collaborative Divorce Professionals Level I Collaborative Law training.
“Divorce is never easy, but it doesn’t have to be devastating. With the right support, tools, and mindset, families can emerge from this challenging transition stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to co-parent effectively and build positive new chapters in their lives.” said Hoelle.
In addition to his work with individual clients, Hoelle is committed to expanding access to effective family law mediation services. To this end, he mentors and supervises non-lawyer mediators through his law firm, helping to train the next generation of skilled and compassionate conflict resolution professionals.
Beyond his legal practice, Hoelle is deeply involved in his intentional living co-housing community, where he has participated in numerous healing processes and facilitated the resolution of conflicts between community members. He is also available to mediate difficult conversations and leadership challenges in other communities, drawing upon his extensive experience in conflict resolution and his ability to foster open, productive dialogue.
To stay grounded and centered in the midst of his often-challenging work, Hoelle maintains a personal practice of vedic meditation and yoga. He is also a professional musician, finding joy and creative fulfillment in his artistic pursuits.
For John Hoelle, the work of guiding families through divorce is more than just a job – it is a calling. And based on his divorce mediation reviews, his clients find his service invaluable. He approaches each case with empathy, expertise, and a deep commitment to helping his clients find a path forward that honors their needs and prioritizes the well-being of their children. Through his work at Conscious Family Law & Mediation, Hoelle is making a profound difference in the lives of countless families, helping them to navigate one of life’s most difficult transitions with grace, resilience, and hope for the future.
