2020 and 2021 threw a lot of curve balls into business on a global scale. Based on the experience gleaned in the past couple years, how can businesses thrive in 2022? What lessons have you learned?
Ena Chartier: Companies can prosper by remaining attentive to the market and by valuing their employees who are their first assets to remain competitive and gain market share.
The world is changing and the future remains uncertain, so we have to share the same vision and build a strong common culture. And the challenge is to remain competitive and ready to face the many challenges.
I learned that everything can change at any moment and that you have to adapt and deal with change in order to survive.
The pandemic seems to keep on disrupting the economy, what should businesses focus on in 2022? What advice would you share?
Ena Chartier: Businesses must focus on people and on training their executives. They must also communicate their vision and their values, which allows them to remain anchored in the face of disturbances.
How has the pandemic changed your industry and how have you adapted?
Ena Chartier: The pandemic has impacted the coaching industry. There are more and more people who are interested in their personal development and who refocus on themselves and their well-being. And online coaching exploded and reached more people. I had to adapt to doing all the meetings and coaching online and participating in events and training remotely.
What advice do you wish you received when the pandemic started and what do you intend on improving in 2022?
Ena Chartier: From the beginning I had a feeling that we were facing something that was going to impact our lives. In the face of the uncertainty at the start of the pandemic, there was a lot of uncertainty. We had to adapt to the new normal and change.
I did not want to receive any particular advice because I had to face the facts like everyone else.
For 2022, my intention has been and still is to focus on my mission and my business with more human connection and growth.
Online business surged higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for 2022?
Ena Chartier: I think companies have adapted to new ways of working. And I think that has profoundly impacted the way we do business.
I think online work and remote connections will still be, but I want more human connection, with real contacts.
How many hours a day do you spend in front of a screen?
Ena Chartier: I spend enough hours in front of the computer, between meetings, online coaching, training. I would like to reduce this time with more time for example reading a book. I sometimes manage to spend entire weekends totally disconnected with my family.
The majority of executives use stories to persuade and communicate in the workplace. Can you share with our readers examples of how you implement that in your business to communicate effectively with your team?
Ena Chartier: Storytelling is powerful because it allows us to share a story and communicate about what brings us together. It is important to know where you come from and your vision to go further. It is a powerful tool for federating a team and achieving targeted performances. I share the why of my company and my vision in order to create a common culture.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as the real challenge right now?
Ena Chartier: The real challenge has always been to evolve with the opportunities and challenges facing the world. Companies must place people at the center of their actions and support change, with managers trained in leadership for the performance of the organization and the well-being of the teams.
In 2022, what are you most interested in learning about? Crypto, NFTs, online marketing, or any other skill sets? Please share your motivations.
Ena Chartier: I am curious about many things and I like learning new skills and getting informed. When I became an entrepreneur, I had to learn online marketing because it is very essential. And I continue to learn because things change and you have to adapt and update your knowledge.
A record 4.4 million Americans left their jobs in September in 2021, accelerating a trend that has become known as the Great Resignation. 47% of people plan to leave their job during 2022. Most are leaving because of their boss or their company culture. 82% of people feel unheard, undervalued and misunderstood in the workplace. Do you think leaders see the data and think “that’s not me – I’m not that boss they don’t want to work for? What changes do you think need to happen?
Ena Chartier: Many people are unhappy at work. Some just need to change company or work environment. and others because they haven’t chosen the right career path. The covid pandemic has certainly accelerated awareness.Awareness of who they are and what they want for their life. And that’s a good thing.
Some companies do not offer sufficient conditions for development and have not yet understood that employees are their greatest asset and that they must do everything possible to ensure that employees feel good, that they evolve on the professional and personal level. Some managers are not sufficiently trained or are not real leaders. To retain talent, companies will have to put in place actions and measures to support change, whether structural or organizational.
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Ena Chartier: My business superpower would be to impact as many women as possible in a short time. I find it frustrating to see a lot of women who don’t realize their potential and still believe they’re not enough. In an ideal world, I would have liked all women, even those without access to new technologies, to step into their power and become their best version doing what they love.
What does “success” in 2022 mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
Ena Chartier: Each of us has our definition of success. Unfortunately, we often let other people define what success should mean to us. Success is about taking control of your life and realizing your definition of success. Success is about bringing the highest vision for yourself to life, stopping playing small, and being authentic and aligned in your personal and professional life.
