With crime rates increasing and the threat of harassment, abuse or worse from strangers all too common, it’s more important than ever for women to protect themselves. For their safety, Las Vegas based physician, Dr. Timothy Francis recommends that all women learn ways to defend themselves!
“Our society is constantly coming up with new threats in day-to-day living, and it’s always important to have a safety net.” Says Dr. Timothy Francis (Las Vegas). “Self-defense techniques can not only help you protect yourself from an attack, but also turn the tables on your aggressor.”
The following is his take on self-defense for women and why he believes everyone should learn in order to stay safe. Before that though…
Who’s Dr. Timothy Francis (Las Vegas)?
It’s not uncommon for a doctor to help you stay healthy, but Dr. Timothy Francis does something extra; he’s a martial artist and a former self-defense trainer.
His interest in karate started showing while he was a young boy and never left him up to this day. His long list of achievements is proof enough that you should never let your career come in the way of doing what you love. Imagine a medical doctor who also does martial arts?
It all began with Dr. Timothy making black belt in the shortest amount of time than anyone in the history of the Nevada Karate Association. To put it into perspective, it took him just 27 months to get his black belt – a record that still holds today.
Remember, we are speaking of the oldest dojo in Nevada that has been around since 1966 – which makes the feat even more impressive!
But that’s not all.
Dr. Timothy Francis (Las Vegas) represented the Silver State at the nationals twice and later on taught karate at the University of Nevada, Reno for four years.
One of his life’s highlights though remains to be the self-defense classes that he held for women at the University of Nevada, Reno. Hundreds of women took up and benefited greatly from these classes before Dr. Timothy left to pursue a career in chiropractic and holistic health care.
Dr. Timothy on Why Women Should Train on Self Defense
Boost your self-esteem
In today’s society, women are constantly being told that they need to be smaller, quieter, and less assertive. They are told that their worth comes from looks and the ability to please others. This is not only untrue, but it can be dangerous.
Women who have low self-esteem are more likely to be targets of violence. They are also more likely to blame themselves if they are attacked.
Learning self-defense can help you feel more empowered and confident. It can also help you see that you’re capable of taking care and that they have the right to defend yourself.
A tool for managing stress
As a woman, you are constantly bombarded with messages about how to be the perfect size, how to dress, how to act, and how to please others. It’s no wonder that a lot of women feel stressed out all the time!
Learning self-defense can help you to take control of your body and your life. It can give you the confidence to stand up for yourself and to defend yourself against those who would do you harm.
Self-defense classes can provide you with the skills you need to defend yourself in a variety of situations. You will learn how to use your body as a weapon, how to strike effectively, and how to defend yourself against common attacks.
You will also learn about situational awareness, which is an important tool for avoiding dangerous situations.
In addition to physical skills, learning self-defense can also help you to manage stress in other areas of your life. The confidence that you gain from knowing that you can protect yourself can spill over into other areas, making you feel more empowered in all aspects of your life.
Stay fit
There are plenty of good reasons for women to make sure they are physically fit and one of those is self-defense. Women who are physically fit and strong are better able to protect themselves from attackers.
It’s not just about being able to run away quickly, but having the strength and stamina to fight back if necessary.
Being physically fit also helps you to be more aware of your surroundings. It’s easier to spot potential threats when you’re not distracted by being out of breath or feeling fatigued. And, if you do find yourself in a dangerous situation, you’ll have the energy and endurance to get through it.
There are endless benefits to staying fit, but when it comes to self-defense, it’s definitely something every woman should consider.
Stay Safe Out There!
The bottom line is that every woman needs to know how to defend herself, especially in today’s world. There are too many risks out there and not enough people looking out for our safety.
Dr. Timothy Francis (Las Vegas) highly recommends learning self-defense as it gives you the power to protect yourself and those you love. It also helps to boost your confidence, makes you fit and flushes out stressors.
So if you’re thinking about taking a self-defense class, do it! You won’t regret it.
