Dr. Ellen Derrick opened BoxBar Vascular in 2017 with a mission to improve the vascular health and well-being of patients and their overall quality of life. As a proud women-owned and operated business, she is a nationally recognized pioneer in the need to track and monitor patient safety to improve outcomes. She’s also the founder of BoxBar Beauty, Seattle’s newest premier medical spa.
A fifth-generation Texan, Dr. Ellen Derrick named her Seattle-based medical practice in honor of her family. Her great-grandfather was a cattle rancher and rode the Santa Fe and the Chisolm trails. In the summers, she would go to his Texas ranch and help with the cattle. The brand was literally “BoxBar,” now shared with the clinic.
“I inherited his passion for hard work and his fierce desire to always improve,” she says.
For nearly seven years, under the leadership of Dr. Derrick, thousands of people who walk through the BoxBar Vascular doors have been treated with exceptional care. The clinic has a glowing five-star review rating on Google thanks to high-quality care in a nurturing, compassionate atmosphere.
“Between 25 to 40 million people in the US have some form of venous insufficiency compared to about 12 million with heart disease,” Dr. Derrick shares. “As the population ages, those figures will climb. I am here to help meet that need.”
Inspiration and Early Influences
Dr. Derrick’s passion for medicine was ignited during her childhood, inspired by her grandfathers, both surgeons. “I used to go on house calls with one of them,” she reminisces. “I wanted to be able to care for people and their families.”
This early exposure to the medical field set her on a path to becoming a highly skilled and compassionate vascular surgeon.
A pivotal moment in Dr. Derrick’s career came during her residency when she saved a patient’s life following a gunshot wound. “Directly influencing a wonderful outcome for that patient and his family showed me firsthand what good can come from hard work and training,” she reflects.
This experience solidified her commitment to the field and motivated her to continuously strive for excellence.
