Seeing all the diet fad infomercials on television, McCarthan was skeptical of their claims and assumed that the thin people in those commercials were just paid actors. However, after a friend introduced her to a fitness trainer who had successfully lost 100 pounds, she finally started to believe that she could do it, too.
With renewed faith, McCarthan began going to the gym, working out, and eating right with a set meal plan. She was motivated by her trainer’s journey and was ready to see results of her own. Through extensive daily training, she started losing weight but found it challenging to keep herself accountable on the weekends. Coach Schlon started writing down things she needed to know that she wasn’t getting from her trainer. This helped her realize that there were gaps between what she was getting and what she needed to accomplish her goals.
On her own weight-loss path, she realized that the pressure of creating an entirely new lifestyle is often overwhelming, which leads to many people giving up. She found that small accountability groups allow people a sense of community on their road to weight loss and improved nutrition. The motivation then keeps them going. This is what led to her becoming a Health and Wellness Coach and in the summer of 2021, she came up with the idea to create an app that would help her better assist her clients.
