Entrepreneurship is an exhilarating but demanding endeavor. With countless responsibilities and nonstop drive to grow, balance can feel impossible for passionate founders. Benji Kushwaha, the founder of White Spot Group, has discovered effective strategies to maintain positivity and equilibrium across business and life. Recently, Benji shared insights on the habits powering his continued success.
Creating a Habit to Stay Positive
Benji emphasized the importance of maintaining a “positive mindset”, even during challenges. He cultivates consistent positivity through practicing gratitude. “My wife always tells me I’m very positive. When something happens, I’m like ‘Okay, don’t worry about it, it’ll be okay.’ She says ‘Are you serious? This is bad.’ But that positivity creates good vibes around the situation,” Benji said.
This optimistic perspective provides a “boost” for teams and diffuses tension. Benji leverages gratitude in both his personal and professional life. “Sometimes gratitude can be as simple as walking on the street, seeing someone struggling, and helping them out. Or being thankful for having a great team around you,” he explained. Benji starts each morning by proactively envisioning the value he can add that day. This motivates him to bring fresh ideas and energy to every interaction.
Prioritizing for Work-Life Balance
For busy entrepreneurs like Benji, achieving work-life balance requires ruthless prioritization. “We can’t do everything. It’s key to focus on what’s important, set goals and targets, and make time for your family and yourself,” he advised. Benji allocates dedicated family time while also communicating his work priorities clearly.
“My family knows that during office hours, I’m focused on work. I don’t take personal calls. But I also set aside weekends and nights for quality time together,” he said. Benji emphasized that balance is an evolving art. As responsibilities and priorities shift in different life stages, maintaining equilibrium requires adaptability.
Optimizing Mornings with a 5 AM Routine
One key habit powering Benji’s success is waking up at 5 AM daily. He uses this time to walk his dog, stretch, and mentally prepare for the day ahead. “The morning allows me to gather my thoughts and energy. I go through my plans and think about how to take things to the next level,” Benji said. He also uses his early start to handle parental duties before the frenzy of the workday begins.
Benji then arrives at the office full of focused enthusiasm. “By 7 AM, everyone’s already waiting on me. But with my morning routine, I have the passion and creativity to take on whatever comes my way,” he recounted. While waking up at 5 AM may not suit everyone’s preferences, Benji emphasized that optimizing one’s morning ritual is essential.
Focusing on Health as a Key Priority
With endless demands competing for attention, health is a priority entrepreneurs often neglect. However, declining well-being will eventually damage effectiveness, Benji warned. “When you’re in the middle of business intensity, you think you can sacrifice self-care and just power through. But without focusing on health, you won’t have the energy to sustain performance,” he said.
Benji maintains lightweight but consistent exercise like walking, golf, and gardening. He also monitors his eating habits and sleep schedule. “Making time for basic wellness helps me concentrate better, have more stamina throughout my long work days, and show up as my best self,” Benji said. While people may have differing health regimens, he emphasized that some form of active self-care is foundational.
The Gradual Shift for Improvement
Finally, Benji highlighted the importance of incremental progress when seeking to improve habits. “It’s hard for people to change 10 things at once. I advise focusing on one new habit at a time until it sticks. Then you can move on to the next one.” This applies both personally and professionally in his experience.
For example, leaders may want struggling team members to immediately improve myriad skills. But targeted, gradual growth is more sustainable. “Help people progressively cultivate the right habits, one by one. Over time, these small gains compound into big results,” Benji said. With patience and commitment, entrepreneurs can evolve positive habits to take their health, happiness, and performance to new heights.
Benji’s holistic insights reveal how entrepreneurs can excel on all fronts through purposeful habit formation. By taking a cue from his playbook, founders can operate at their peak while enjoying the journey. With the right balance supporting their mission, entrepreneurial leaders can find harmony on the path to long-term victory.
