We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.
Amy Bos: Hello! My name’s Amy Bos and I’m the current COO and Co-Founder of Mediumchat Group. Being a fully remote business, I have the freedom to set my own hours, so I get to spend plenty of time with my amazing silver Persian cat, Cosmo, whilst continuing my spiritual journey.
Mediumchat is a top psychic chat platform that I co-founded to help gifted individuals connect with a bigger audience. Our users connect with top mediums, psychics, clairvoyants, tarot readers, and coaches via secure chat conversations.
We’re all about creating a platform that’s super engaging and user-friendly for psychic connections.
In the past year, what is the greatest business achievement you’d like to celebrate with your team? Please share the details of that success.
Amy Bos: During 2023, we really focussed on building a culture and style of working that allowed all members of our team to achieve their own version of work-life balance and maximize overall wellness and happiness. I’d say we really nailed it.
We’ve always been, and will remain, a people first business, but in 2023, from a companywide stand point we’ve taken it to a whole new level. I’ve always been a big believer that it’s not the hours you work, but the passion you have for your job.
Shifting to a more flexible working style and implementing a series of changes decided by collaboration through each department is a huge win. This is something we’ll continue to build on throughout 2024, as what people want is constantly evolving, based on where they are in their life. Certainly what I wanted in my 20s is not what I need in my 40s.
Quiet quitting, The Great Resignation, are an ongoing trend causing many businesses to struggle to keep talent engaged and motivated. Most are leaving because of their boss or their company culture. 82% of people feel unheard, undervalued, and misunderstood in the workplace. In your experience, what keeps employees happy? And how are you adapting to the current shift we see?
Amy Bos: This is a good question and something businesses should definitely be considering. As I said, we’ve taken big steps to cement our culture and make sure individuals look forward to starting work each and every day. Employees need to feel valued and heard.
Giving them a voice and actively seeking their input is essential to building a great culture, and an engaged team. We’ve sought feedback and ideas company wide to improve happiness levels, productivity, and make our team feel valued.
Today, as people work longer, we noticed a disconnect between the younger generations and our more experienced team members.
Implementing a reverse mentorship program has bridged the disconnect, bringing everyone together and showing each’s strengths. Our younger entry level staff are tech gurus and have a lot of knowledge and ideas to share.
Whilst mentoring, they get to absorb knowledge from our more experienced team members. Collaboration levels have never been higher and I certainly seekout my mentor before taking any decisions on a new app!
Online business keeps on surging higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for the year to come and how are you capitalizing on the tidal wave?
Amy Bos: We moved my business into the remote workspace well before it was the norm, and being an online chat platform, we’re experts in navigating the online world.
I’ve witnessed a whirlwind of tech growth over the past four years, which doesn’t look like letting up in the near term. I’d say that the digital landscape will be unrecognisable in a years’ time, with enormous leaps in capabilities, especially with the growth of AI.
For us, we’re harnessing AI to crunch data and become more targeted in our outreach and overall marketing efforts.
Our developer team is constantly upgrading our platform to stay ahead of the game. We actively solicit feedback from our clients, and through the use of AI we can implement changes faster and more effectively. Generating code in minutes rather than hours.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?
Amy Bos: As a business working in the digital sphere, the biggest obstacle is the sheer volume of digital noise.
Being heard above the noise is immensely challenging. As a business, developing a strategy is the first step, but importantly, you need to remain agile to pivot based on market changes.
Of course, businesses need a long-term strategy. Today, only the short-term strategy is set in stone. So, I’d say the two biggest challenges is keeping your business nimble and getting your message out there.
In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a company? Can you share an example?
Amy Bos: For me, it’s the sacrifices you have to make, especially in the early days. Obviously, when you run a business, you have a commitment. You have to put in the effort and even when you have time off, you have to field some questions or make time sensitive decisions.
But, overall, running a business means putting it first, even to a degree. Personally, running a business has meant skipping family gatherings, missing out on holidays, and spending less time with friends.
Would I have launched my business if I knew how many sacrifices I’d need to make beforehand? Absolutely; but I’d certainly underestimated the impact it’d have on my personal life.
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Amy Bos: There are so many superpowers it’s hard to pick one! I think I’d have to choose speed. Being able to literally move so fast that I could be anywhere and everywhere at once.
Agility is a real game changer for businesses and a superpower that can put small businesses ahead of their slower but larger competitors.
I’d use my nimble feet to change gear in areas to compensate for shifts in the market. But on a personal level, I’d never be late for a dinner ever again!
