2020 and 2021 threw a lot of curve balls into business on a global scale. Based on the experience gleaned in the past couple years, how can businesses thrive in 2022? What lessons have you learned?
Ali Salman: Always be proactive, instead of being reactive. Look for future trends, opportunities, and consumer habits so you are a couple of steps ahead of your competitors. Be flexible and be open to pivoting.
The pandemic seems to keep on disrupting the economy, what should businesses focus on in 2022? What advice would you share?
Ali Salman: Digitize your business and make technology the central component. Irrespective of your industry, technology is one of the strongest ways you will grow and ensure a predictable future. If organizations want to thrive they need to really adapt and implement technology in their DNA.
How has the pandemic changed your industry and how have you adapted?
Ali Salman: The legal industry being a laggard has always been slow to adapt, but pandemic pushed a lot of changes that were long due. Over 90% of the clients are now comfortable meeting virtually over in-person meetings. Clients want Law Firms to adopt new ways of communication and refine their internal processes to make it more user-friendly.
What advice do you wish you received when the pandemic started and what do you intend on improving in 2022?
Ali Salman: Every recession or slowdown in the economy presents an opportunity. It’s a great time to make bold moves and break the status quo.
Online business surged higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for 2022?
Ali Salman: Consumers love to interact online and we will see this trend continue. 2022 will see a rise in more immersive and personalized experiences like Metaverse. We will see a major transformation in how people spend, work, travel, eat and play. In every aspect of life, technology will be a huge component driving the change.
How many hours a day do you spend in front of a screen?
Ali Salman: 4-6 depending on the day, sometimes it can go up to 8 hours. I try to be mindful and track on-screen time to understand the correlation between productivity and screen time.
The majority of executives use stories to persuade and communicate in the workplace. Can you share with our readers examples of how you implement that in your business to communicate effectively with your team?
Ali Salman: I often share why I do what I do, why we started this company, and why it’s essential for us to fulfill our mission.
The reason we started Lawtiq was an experience that touched me very closely. One of my family members wanted to get in touch with a criminal lawyer. He contacted a few firms, and it took him just 4 days to book an appointment and almost 2 weeks to meet 3 different lawyers.
The process involved multiple emails and calls which was very inefficient in today’s day and age. We wanted to make sure legal help is accessible faster and easier because a few hours can make a massive difference in the outcome of a legal dispute. This led us to create Lawtiq.com and our mission is to make legal services accessible.
Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as the real challenge right now?
Ali Salman: Some of the macroeconomic challenges like pandemics, anticipated recession, or slowdown are macroeconomic challenges that impact the demand and supply. Also, these challenges are out of the control of leaders and organizations.
In 2022, what are you most interested in learning about? Crypto, NFTs, online marketing, or any other skill sets? Please share your motivations.
Ali Salman: Growth loops and consumer psychology fascinates me. These concepts evolve over time but their core remains the same. I am always intrigued by what makes customers tick.
A record 4.4 million Americans left their jobs in September in 2021, accelerating a trend that has become known as the Great Resignation. 47% of people plan to leave their job during 2022. Most are leaving because of their boss or their company culture. 82% of people feel unheard, undervalued and misunderstood in the workplace. Do you think leaders see the data and think “that’s not me – I’m not that boss they don’t want to work for? What changes do you think need to happen?
Ali Salman: Making the workplace more flexible and inclusive. If an organization can create a culture where employees feel like they are valued and respected along with the flexibility to pursue other things like having more family time, time to workout, etc.
On a lighter note, if you had the ability to pick any business superpower, what would it be and how would you put it into practice?
Ali Salman: 10X Fast Growth. Like every business leader, my wish is to accelerate the growth of Lawtiq.com above industry standards. This can be possible with more hours in a day, and more resources in terms of money and human capital.
What does “success” in 2022 mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.
Ali Salman: To grow Lawtiq into a leading legal marketplace in the world.
